I talked to Marty at KRC this afternoon. He just dynoed a truck today that installed HO cams on last week. This truck has an Airaid, an F&B 70mm, and the exhaust from an R/T, otherwise stock. Marty told me it showed peak horsepower increase of 13hp and a peak torque increase of 27lb/ft. The most impressive number is that it showed at least a 20 lb/ft torque increase across the entire curve, as well as a 5 hp increase across the entire curve. That torque number is great.

Now I've heard that the Jeep Overland is a dog unless you wind it out. However, these cams seem to produce a pretty good torque boost across the whole range in a stock 4.7. My theory is that if you put those cams into a stock motor, without benefit of higher flowing heads, you don't get a huge horsepower bump but the torque number is super. With the higher flow of in the full HO motor, you get more horsepower, and more peak torque, but you lose it on the bottom end.

I'll take 20 lb/ft across the board any day.

I sure wish they would post the actual dyno chart. I'd love to compare the curves against other 4.7 charts.

Like I said I was sure I could feel the torque increase. I love the way that it feels driving in town. Now to port those heads.:)

CW, if you port the heads, you might lose some torque at the sake of horsepower.

I doubt it, I was mainly planning on porting the exhaust side of the heads. The intake side would be just a very minor clean up.:)

I just cleaned up the bowls and made them match up to the seats on both the intake and exhaust. The exhaust side was the most restricted. I narrowed up the casting around the guides and made them more "aero" in shape. I also got rid of any big casting flaws that were evident also. The ports themselves are already very generous, so I didn't mess with them. Now I'm wondering if I shouldn't go ahead and order up a set of the HO cams..... I'd hate to be the only guy on the block without them! hahaha

We dyno the truck yesterday with the new cams,I setup the truck just as stock as I could,Stock PCM,The IAT was off so we could the real numbers from the cams,RWHP was about 203 and torque jumped up to 439 it was 387 on the base run.
GET these cams,There worth it!
Next we do the heads and install the headers.
It was nice to see it hit 140 on the dyno,We only did one run.

Good question! The price maybe great for the increase, but if the install is tough, it could really be an expensive add-on. I would hate to get them and pay so much more for a shop to install. Who knows the procedure, or perhaps the install the KRC sends witht the kits? Perhaps someone could post it on the internet.

Cams are easy to install,Bring the engine around to TDC"Hard to see"unhook the battery,Remove the bolts from the power steering pump so you can move it out of the way,unplug the injectors and the coils,remove the valve cover and theres your cam,Now make sure the V8 mark is at 12 oclock and mark the timing sprocket,Install the special tool to lock the chain,Got to have the special tool,You can do it at home,Go for it!!!!

Those dyno #s seem screwed to me,you had a base line of 387 tq? and then 439 tq witht the cams?? Seems like your dyno needs a dyno

Those dyno numbers do seem a little weird. My best RWTQ number was 397.6.

I know when ordering these special cams from KRC performance, a simple instruction booklet and the installation tool come with it. I just don't know how simple the install is. It sounds easily doable, but I fear having motor dissasembled and not being able to complete the project and then being in a pretty tight spot.

The factory service manual calls for the special tools from Miller Tools. I got the catalog. You need #8350 (Chain Wedge) $14.80, #6958 (Spanner Wrench) $37.91, and #8346 (Adapter Pins) $8.51. Don't know if KRC's kit comes with them all or just the wedge.

The tool is nothing special its just a wedge shape,you can make one out of wood.Make a wedge shape like a doorstoper,drill a hole in the big end and run some wire thru it all it does is keep the chain tensioner in tension,you slide the wedge down inbetween the chain and it holds the chain in place,same way for any overhead cam engine
