Use a wrench.
No! Use TWO wrenches.

The clutch fan is bolted to the fan clutch.
Is it the fan clutch you're trying to remove, or the clutch fan?

That should keep him busy for a bit.

Try putting a big wrench on it and smacking it sharply with a mallet. Also, disregard clowns that come on this forum thinking they're funny, cracking themselves up. They're just fools amused by their own chattering.

Easy way to remember: Whatever direction the fan turns when the engine is running, that's the direction to loosen the nut.

The clutch fan was a pain in the rear to remove. I tried everything. Finally I had my dealer do it for 20 bucks.

Yo galyion. Left handed, right handed. Doesn't matter. Didn't you read DanK's post? That method works every time.

That works great unless the belt tension is too lose and the pulley keeps slipping before the nut breaks loose. My OEM fan clutch came right off no problem, but an aftermarket fan clutch I had wedged itself tightly onto the waterpump shaft.

I found this solution to the slipping pulley problem. Take a peice of 1/2" plywood about 16"x2", secure a 1/4" bolt that sticks out 1" to the top of the board. Put the 1/4" bolt into the pulleys hole and the other end of the board onto the truck's frame below the pulley. When you turn the fan clutch nut, the pulley will not turn since the board is wedged between the pulley (bolt) and truck frame.

How thick can you get?!

So what the F*** does belt tension have to do with knowing how to always tell which way to turn the nut?
Huh?

Found that the fan pulley almost always slips when you try to remove the clutch fan with a wrench by hand. However, when you put the wrench on and smack it sharply with a mallet, the clutch fan breaks loose easily.
So, just whack it!

Standing in front of the truck looking at the engine the nut must turn towards the passenger side to loosen.

I have a busted ring finger on my right hand to prove it as thats where I smacked the A/C compressor as I hit the handle of the wrench I was holding to loosen the fan clutch (I am a lefty so held with my right hand and hit with my left).

Stick with the ole saying "righty tighty, lefty loosy"
