It is BU?? cold up here in northern, MI. I have a 185 t-stat in my v-8, 318. The truck gets warm quick but was wondering if there were any performance issues with using a lower t-stat????

Things to keep in mind. I've always been told that the warmer the engine, the better the performance and efficiency. I know some people that change their T-Stat to a lower one in the summer, and I've found this to be the wrong thing to do. I run a 190-195 in my vehicles because of the obvious in the winter, but it will also slow down the water going through the radiator during the summertime helping to keep your engine cooler. Personnally, I'd stick with the 185 TSTAT.

cold up north, it you're experiencing "pinging on acceleration" and it's on the older Magnum engine, I'd be checking for a leaking belly pan gasket unless, your truck is running noticeably hotter or you're using 87-octane. Usually in the winter time you can run lower octane fuel because most vehicles run cooler since the air flowing past the radiator is so much colder as is the air going into the engine.
