 Subject: Did Truck Came with wrong PCM

My 1993 Dak came new with PCM # 56027850.I have checked The on line parts catalogs of Auto Zone
and Autoparts Giant as well as the dealer.the correct one is part # 56027851.The 7850 is for a
1993 5.2L/318 van.My truck has a 5.2L/318 engine,
46re A/T and Came with a 3.55 diff that has been upgraded to a 3.92.It has California Emissions.When I replaced it last year I replaced
it with the same that was in it a 7850.The original one went bad after 10 years.I have been told by Some folks whose knowledge I don't know about,that The PCM's 7850 & 7851 are the same and
Dodge does this to increase the price on various
parts. The truck runs OK.
Should I replace the PCM with the one called for in the catalogs.any information will be greatly appreciated.

Might as well just get the MP performance unit, if you are going to get another. great bang for the buck.

I got a MP performance PCM,but I use the truck to pull a 4500# travel trailer a lot and I have been
told or read somewhere that One shouldn't use a performance PCM to tow with.I did use it to tow from New Mexico to San Diego one time and I used mid-grade gas and it pulled great with no pings.

Oh, if you tow thats a little different. Not sure how true the statements dodge makes about towing with a MP unit, but at the same time you can't always hear detonation(ping)

I thought you were supposed to always use premium with the performance PCM. Is that true?
