I'm looking into getting an atv and am wondering what brand and model to look into. Also I have a 4.7 with the 6'5" bed and am wondering if it's better to tow one or carry one in the bed. Will loading it on ramps be too heavy for the tailgate? Any info would be appreciated. Also I'm leaning towards the Yamaha Wolverine, if any of you have owned one, some pluses and minuses. Thanks.

A sled is what you pull during any pulling contest, be it with trucks, tractor or anything. So i guess if you don't know what that is than you've never been to a pull. So then you also wouldn't know that the 660 spins the tires too much and can't pull the sled out of the hole. If you can't get the sled to move because you've spun out than you lose. If you don't even know what your talking about than maybe you shouldn't flame. People might take you serious if you learned to use any one of the numerous punctuation keys on your keyboard. Generally they are used to start and stop sentences.

Amsoil 2-Cycle Oil for ATV's
IP: Logged

Message:

Off-Topic but I wanted to let everyone know
that Amsoil offers a full linup of 2-Cycle Oils.

SYNTHETIC 2-CYCLE OILS: INJECTOR AND 100:1

__________________________________________________

SYNTHETIC 2-CYCLE OILS: INJECTOR AND 100:1

Offers Maximum Protection For:

ATV's, Outboard Motors, Snowmobiles, Motorcycles, Chainsaws, and all air-cooled and water-cooled 2-cycle engines.

PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

AMSOIL Synthetic 2-Cycle Oils are superior quality lubricants which provide maximum protection and outstanding performance in all two-cycle gasoline engines.

Maximum Wear Protection

AMSOIL Synthetic 2-Cycle Oils are high film strength oils that virtually eliminate metal to metal contact so piston scuffing is prevented and wear is reduced. The high lubricity of AMSOIL Synthetic 2-Cycle Oils reduces friction so operating temperatures are controlled and maximum engine performance is achieved.

Reduced Engine Deposits

AMSOIL Synthetic 2-Cycle Oils contain top performing additives which have been tested and proven to minimize high temperature deposits. These oils resist oil breakdown from heat so they do not form gum, varnish, sludge or sticky deposits. Spark plug fouling and excessive carbon build-up in the combustion chamber, exhaust port and ring area are greatly reduced. In addition, the clean burn characteristics and lean mix ratios reduce smoke and exhaust emissions.

Prevents Rust and Corrosion

AMSOIL Synthetic 2-Cycle Oils contain special rust and corrosion inhibitors, providing excellent off-season storage protection.

Outstanding Low Temperature Performance

Both AMSOIL Synthetic Injector Oil and 100:1 Pre-mix Oil mix readily with fuel even in low temperatures. However, AMSOIL Injector Oil with its -45°F pour point and SAE #4 miscibility and fluidity rating, is better suited for severe cold. It is recommended for use in injector systems as well as 50:1 pre-mix. Also, AMSOIL injector oil will help ease starting because it does not solidify or get gummy in the motor which allows it to turn over more freely.

We have a few basic all-around Quads.
A 250 two-stroke Polaris (top heavy!) for the wife and I have a 350 Warrior. The Warrior doesn't have the power of a Raptor or Banshee but it is the most balanced all-around bike I have riden. My friends and I sometimes go into some really nasty back roads, rocky and all. That Warrior has kept me on the ground so many times when I should have wrecked. I love the Banshee's for all mighty power at the Dunes, but I like my electric start, reverse, and low end power when I am off road. Plus mine does pretty good at the dunes.

Anyway. I tow my two Quads plus a Honda 70 we also have for the kids with my QC 4X4 Dakota all the time. That truck kicks a$$ over the other guys in the Tahoes and similar. I'm impressed with the 4.7 and I can't wait to see how she runs after the cam swap.

Polaris=JUNK also know as Poolaris

For reliability I would go with Honda or Yamaha, these are two brands that have very low warranty claims. Suzuki is getting much better along with Kawasaki after the merger of the two corporations. Stay away from junk polaris, I have never seen a happy polaris owner, also the resale on Polaris is horriable.

Well if you want to get technical it would be considered an alliance, but it is definitly a merger of ideas. Kawasaki and Suzuki are making money in this division as stated in powersports news, I suggest youfind your local dealer and ask for a copy of his powersports news to check the market share and profitability reports for 2003's fiscal year which can also be found online.

Article:

Tokyo, Japan - The Kawasaki-Suzuki alliance - created to allow the two brands to share certain production platforms, related sourcing, and engage in selected product co-development - was announced last August and will begin to take form by the middle of this year. Alliance planning is moving along as was anticipated and will be recognized as a significant contributor to Kawasaki dealers’ growth opportunities beginning in 2002.

The initial benefit of the alliance - which is similar to business models employed in the automotive industry - will be in Kawasaki dealers’ ability to offer a broadened product line, specifically with off-road and dual-purpose motorcycles and all-terrain vehicles. Kawasaki dealers will be able to offer consumers branded youth and sport ATVs, as well as additional small and mid-sized motorcycle models.

There has been speculation from uninformed sources regarding the extent to which the alliance will affect other product segments, which is unfortunate. When the announcement was first made in Japan, the two companies were very clear that certain models - such as super sports motorcycles - would not fall under the alliance umbrella.

It is expected that Suzuki will issue similar details of the arrangement to it U.S. dealer group in conjunction with Kawasaki's impending notification. Their announcement will detail the product expansions to the Suzuki line that the alliance generates.

Kawasaki will continue to build on the existing equity in its brand and its individual model name recognition, and will focus on offering consumers the widest-possible choice of models. This will be a key component in enhancing profitability for Kawasaki dealers. At the same time, Kawasaki customers will be able to strengthen their relationships with their dealership, which will be positioned to better serve their needs.

The two brands will combine some development efforts to take advantage of efficiencies that otherwise would be absorbed independently, and would necessarily lengthen the time required to bring new products to market. This will be a benefit to consumers who will be able to purchase a broader range of new and updated models that maintain the uniqueness inherent to the Kawasaki brand.

Kawasaki has a proud heritage and this alliance gives it support needed to continue to build on it as it moves forward. The entire arrangement is predicated on allowing both brands to maintain their respective character and simultaneously increase the impact they have in an increasingly competitive marketplace.

I drive the Yamaha. It seems to be tough as sh*t too.

Everyone who has riden my wifes Polaris has wrecked it (flipped!)

My bro in law came to the dunes the last time and rode the Polaris. He went home in an ambulance and a BAD compound fracture just below his knee. He's got a plate and screws in it. He is currently going through some bone graphs. He allready had to have some muscle and skin graphs. Ouch!!! The Polaris didn't get damadged. It continued to run even upside down!

ATV's -- Amsoil Synthetic 2-Cycle Oils
IP: Logged

Message:

Amsoil Interceptor, Injector, Dominator & Saber Oils

Two-cycle engine designs are changing and it's absolutely imperative that AMSOIL provides the best possible products for those new designs.

Direct fuel injection and exhaust power valves have been incorporated in two-cycle engines in efforts to improve performance, reduce emissions and improve fuel efficiency. As a result, we're seeing leaner fuel-to-oil ratios and hotter-running engines, up to one-hundred and twenty degrees Fahrenheit hotter. This places additional demands on two-cycle oils.

Our Fabulous Four 2-Cycle Oils, as we call them, are the best two-cycle oils in the industry. We've been working on these oils for a long, long time and that effort is reflected in the quality of these products.

We have over thirty years of experience in blending synthetic oil. No one does it better. Like all of our oils, our new two-cycle oils are precise blends of the best base stocks and additives available in the world. We tested hundreds of formulations in laboratory settings and real world applications to ensure that the oils we introduced provide the best possible performance in the applications they were designed for. Our Interceptor Oil, for example, was designed to address deposit formation on exhaust power valves, a problem which ultimately leads to valve sticking and poor performance. That oil was tested in two separate field trials in over one-hundred snowmobiles prior to its introduction, not to mention hundreds of hours in laboratory testing. There was no valve sticking.

Specific Applications

Each of the oils can be used in a variety of applications, but each is designed for optimum performance in limited, specific applications. We've created a chart that ranks each oil's performance in different applications. Customers will see that each market category has one oil recommended as excellent for that market. That's the oil that should be used and recommended to customers.

The HP Injector Oil is recommended as excellent for direct fuel injected, electronic fuel injected and carbureted outboard motors. The Interceptor Oil is recommended for snowmobiles, motorcycles, ATV's, personal watercraft and jet boats. The Dominator Oil is recommended for racing applications. And the two types of Saber Oil, Professional and Outboard, are recommended for small two-cycle power equipment and pre-mix outboards, respectively.

It's a pretty aggressive marketing strategy to introduce a whole new line-up of two-cycle oils. Amsoil has always stayed ahead of the curve when it comes to meeting the demands of modern engine design, and our two-cycle oils are no exception.

Two-cycle engines are aggressive engines. They work hard, and the people who use them play hard and work hard.

This is a huge market. And it's a market where Amsoil has established a significant presence.

I have a much better time jumping the Warrior. The Polaris is too scary feeling.
The Warrior is what I normally ride. The automatic Polaris is for the wife. She didn't want to shift.

After having to put my brother in law back on the Polaris to get back to camp from the middle of the dunes (at night) with his bones hanging out, I don't jump anything much any more.

I have taken the Warrior in pretty deep water, but not above the seat and never felt it try to float. I've heard of such sh*t, but never seen it.

I tried a different sprocket once too. Was one more tooth on the front and it made such a difference that it didn't feel like it had sh*t for power once in 6th gear so I put the original back. The first gear on these things is so low that you can start in 2nd in most cases.

Here is what happens when you DO get hurt:

This photo was taken soon after his first surgery.

This photo a few weeks later.

He now has a long metal rod down his shin bone with some screws.
He just had another surgery to do a bone graph where they took bone from his hip, made some mush and put it in his leg where some of his bone had vaporized from the ATV accident.
