Well I guess I have the only piece of s**t dodge that dosnt get good milage.
I also think some of you are missing the whole f**king point. I DIDNT expect great milage from this truck. But I did expect better from a LATE MODEL FUEL INJECTED COMPUTER CONTROLED V8 BUILT AFTER THE YEAR 2000.

Riv Try ading some wieght to your regular cab. My truck is a club cab. If you got 22 mpg with that thing dont you thint a club cab should get at least 18? Hell Id be more than happy with that. And If you want to race a mustang that will beat you there are lots around. All you got to do is race them and not chicken out. Try racing the v8 cars not the 4 bangers. Thats probably why you havnt been beaten by one yet.My 5.0 mustang was stock except for the 4:10 gears and it would walk all over your 15.0 truck by a full second.

Anyways its not worth posting in a milage post on a board where people like to disagree with everything you say. If I post that Im not getting good milage dont tell me Im lying. Tell me theres somthing wrong with my truck. The damn thing is still on waranty. If I could resolve this problem I would very much like to keep it. But if not then it goes to the highest bidder. Im sick of a cup of coffee costing me 10 bucks.

Like you said, A public internet forum is not the place to post if you only want to be told what you want to hear. Too many times if people aren't getting that magic number on the window sticker they automatically think it's a mechanical defect they need to go bug the dealer about. When the truth is, it's often just the nature of the beast, with each one being a little different. But your dealer wants to humor you because they dont want to be rude and tell somebody who just got a 25 thousand dollar truck to go buy a car if they want a consistent 20 mpg. So they fiddle with it to make you happy.

Well, I consistantly get sub-par MPG, and after you've had it for 110K miles, you get used to it. Get a second job if you cant afford the gas. I suggest delivering Pizza! lol

I almost never get over 15 mpg with a light foot and 90% highway driving. If you live in an area that uses an ethanol gas mix, you should expect lower milage, but just think about how good your emitions are! lol

I have a 4.7l and these engines are not designed to run an ethanol mix. When I moved to Denver where they use ethanol mixes year 'round, my milage dropped from 17mpg (all driving conditions) to about 14.5 (all driving conditions). It's actually a bit worse in winter (13 mpg) when the ethanol % increases in the mix.

So keep that in mind.

I have a '00 Dakota CC 4X4 (4.7), I get ~ 15.5 mpg. All my driving is considered city I guess. I only put about 80 miles a week on it (37,500 now). I hit the interstate for about 2.5 miles on the way to work, but I only drive it to work and back and it's only a 15 minute drive.

I try to avoid the ethanol mixed fuel. There are only a few stations around here that use ethanol. When I have used it the milage dose get worse. And its not that I cant afford the gas, I just like to keep the 10 second pro street car thats in my garage as the pig on fuel. And its not much worse than the dakota

14 mpg on the average sometimes better, sometimes worse, even towing a 24' 70's model camper to the deer woods, still the same no matter what. I love this truck. old truck was a bone stock 93' Dak 3.9L CC 4x4. It got 12 on the avg and wouldn't even pull the old camper. I loved it too. I also have a 95 nissan CC4x4 with a 2.4L 4 banger with big mud hawgs on it it gets about 14mpg with a tail wind. it will barely pull itself in a strong head wind I hate this truck!! Except in 4lo you cannot stick that little truck in any muck.

25C pkg with HDS Group and Trailer Tow Pkg. List 22,665 paid 18,400. At 3,000 miles I get 17/gal.
Noticed an increase of 1.5 mpg after adding a tonneau cover at 1,500 mi. Miles are about 50/50 city /Highway. Really like this truck and thought it was neat that DC put my name on the window sticker ( This vehicle was built especially for: ).

if your engine is a 5.9 liter then theres one trick i found that worked for my 03 r/t cc check your sync signal (distributor adjustment)the factory states should be set to "0" degrees but i noticed at "0" its sluggish and the mileage droped to about 14mpg bump it to "8" and no more i got 18-19mpg on my trip to oregon when i went last year you will also notice a better throttle responce on the highway and around town. you will need a drb3 factory(dealer) scanner or you can use a snap-on scanner as i have and then e-mail me with results i would be curious if it helped you.

p.s.

if you adjust sync more then 8 you may get check engine lite cause its outta spec. good luck.

2001 QC 4x4 4.7L 3:55 auto, 12,000 miles, loaded (with heavy options). Since I bought this last November I am averaging 9.8 MPG in all city driving in 4x4 in an arctic environment. My calculated mileage matches my overhead numbers exactly.

The one highway extended cruise I have done so far showed 17.3MPG @55-60MPH in 4-wheel for 80 miles. Not bad.

All of this is lower mileage than I expected but I'll wait for more data and environments before whining too much. The auto-start 8 minute warm-ups can't be helping much and the ethanol issue isn't one I'd heard (thanks Twix) -- all the fuel I can get is ethanoled.

As for all this bickering about whether the mileage topic is ridiculous or not, here is my take: why don't all of the obnoxious "you bought a V8 for power quit whining" types stop reading these MPG threads if it annoys them so much. Even though I am puzzled at how the 5.9L '99 Dodge 3/4 ton ext cab 4x4 my lead-footed friend has gets better mileage than my Dakota, the issue to me is not that I am not getting the mileage I "ought to" get, it's that it seems as if there are guys with trucks virtually identical to mine that are getting marginally to significantly better mileage. Why not mine?

Simple. Until you are sure you press the gas pedal at exactly the same angle as me every time you leave a light, go over the exact same number of hills as I do on the way to work which slope at precisely the same angle, the temperature in our areas is always exactly the same down to the last degree, we have the same options on our trucks, the same bodyweights, and have the exact same mix of highway/city down to the last mile, it's dumb to compare your mileage to mine. There's far too many variables involved. To me your mileage sounds perfect for the way you drive your truck. I average 2-4 mpg higher than you because the weather's warmer around here and I do lots of highway driving.

BAsically, I find most mpg complaints on here to be unfounded. Instead of complaining about why foolish mpg posts are invaded by people telling you to quit whining, get used to the fact that it's gonna be par for the course if you post mileage complaints on a 4x4 V8 truck site. It's an open forum and people will respond to your opinion. If you dont want to hear it, don't post.

I Have a 2003 Dakota Q/C W/A 4.7 I drive mostly locally 100 miles per week and iI have been averaging 9.f to 10.5 mpg. While I fully expect lower mileage with that type of driving that I do the epa estimates were 12-18mpg and I generally keep the rpms 2000-2500. Other owners that I have talked to in this area are doing with the same driving 13-16 mpg.It was suggested that I get a after market air cleaner.Except for the mpg. I have no complaints regarding the truck

Tanked up this morning and got 16.7 mpg. Going up to the AdironDAKS in two weeks. That should give me a true highway read as its a 360 mile trip. By the way my 3.0L caravan makes it in one tank at about 26 per.

I just bought a 95 Dak (5.2) with 98,000 miles on it and the gas mileage was 12.63MPG. My mechanic said that the fuel pump and the injectors needed replaced. He wanted $600 just to replace the fuel pump, so I did it myself. It took 4 hours to replace. I also replaced all 8 of the fuel injectors. It only took 1 hour. The gas mileage has been 17.99MPG for the last two fillups. So I am a lot happier with the mileage. My question is: Why has my gas gauge stopped working? It stays in the full position all the time now. It was working correctly after the fuel pump was replaced, but since I did the injectors it seems stuck. Any ideas or suggestions will be appreciated.

Hey Brian Y ,Riv here, when I said I hadn't been beeten by a mustang yet I was serious. maybe they were stock like mine. My buddies stock 5.0 runs side by side with me on the street. At the strip I saw a 85 5.o run 13.5s stock or so he said, then he mentioned something about the 4.56 gears, the mild cam, clutch set up,ignition system, I could not mistake the open headers, or miss the slicks. Oh yeah and the way it launched it looked like it may have had some suspension work in there too. But it was after all just a stock 5.0 with gears. Oh yeah he also said that he still got decent milage thanks to the overdrive. Whatever that ment. My milage calculation came on a tripthrough OHIO. If your from out of state you don't speed in OHIO. So yeah 55mph , babying it for 100miles managed to get me 22mpg. As for the extra weigth thing My wife's 5.9 grand cherokee avg's about 14-16 mpg.

Well funny to say, I get some weird gas milage. When i first got my truck my dad would always tell me about how before he put the flowmaster system on it, it would get around 15mpg. I mean now i only get on average 9-11...9 with a heavy foot and 11 if I am SUPER conservative. And once when I took a 200 mile trip, San Jose to Hanford... i got appx 25mpg. I do not know how i got this but it blew me away, and I know i did not do the math wrong, i did it about 5 times. I know this is true because i only have a 16gallon tank, and had about 1/2 a tank left... i normally can only go about 170 miles on a tank if I am lucky. My dad said the best hwy milage he got was about 18. So i see an increase in hwy milage, but not city? Does this make sense? I have a really heavy foot too, and was flooring it much of the way on my trip. It seemed really weird to me. Anywho, just thought i would touch up on that a bit. But I love my truck to death and would take the power of it over something else that got better gas milage. And nothing can compete with the sound, I get admirers all the time...:D
