I want to put a cold air intake on my 03 4.7 5-speed... but
am not going to be able to modify the exhaust, is it really
worth it.. I keep reading that I wont gain much in the way of
power with modifying the exhaust. I was thinking about a
volant cold air intake, would it better just to get a K&N drop
in, and save the cash. Also, would I really loose allot of low
end, if I dont modify the exhaust??

No you should go with the air intake...if you add exhaust you will actually loose low end power. You should see a noticable gain with a new intake system.

ANY improvements you can make will help, and they will continue to add power as you make other improvements. Start with a better intake, then a cat-back system. This will help without undermining low-end power. You can always add the headsers and cat-forward stuff later. Headers really come alive in the pursuit of upper rpm power, so when you get around to swapping cams, headers will be a big plus. Also remember that well-designed headers will not cost low-rpm power like is commonly said. Maybe 5 ft-lbs (give or take) below 2500 rpm, then you start seeing gains. If you make other mods, you'll have more power even below 2500 rpm. Don't sweat it.

If your not going to modify the exhaust then don't go crazy a get an expensive intake. K&N Drop in is better than stock, in you want more power check out 360 degree intakes, about $170 or so. you wont lose low end with intake but you will with most exhaust systems unless you have other mods to help agaist it( cams, headers and so on).
