how to make your A/C cold in just 5 easy steps-
step 1- turn your A/C nob to "off"
step 2- roll down your windows
step 3- open your rear vents (does not apply to regular cab owners)
step 4- open your rear sliding window (optional)
step 5- enjoy

Bring it to the dealer or an AC shop if you wanna pay $$$ to get it diagnosed. If you have any mechanical ability at all, you can just throw a can of R134A in the AC system and see if that fixes it. If not, get a set of R134A gauges and diagnose the system yourself. Kinda expensive, but if you get good with the gauges you can fix A/C systems for all the local hot Chix. *G*

good luck

A/C performance on the Dodge Dakotas and Durangos has not always been something to brag about. My 1999 Dakota is a bit weak. I think a larger evaporator has been made available for Dakotas and Durangos. Seems like I remember seeing a couple of performance enhancing service bulletins from Chrysler.

Pep Boys has an R134 guage for 20 bones. Grab one, check the charge, its probably low, so fill it to spec, done. Probably be a good idea to throw in a little bit of oil as well.

I work at a dealer in SW Indiana. if the compressor cycles on and off rapidly, you are low on charge and have a leak. check the condenser. it sits just in front of the radiator and looks like one too. if it is not damaged, you proably have a leaking evaporator coil. I don't recommend doing this yourself if you are not comfortable with your abilities working on cars. the dash will have to be pull back, the hvac housing removed and disassebled, then you can replaced the evap. coil.
there are no larger coils either. my advise, take it to the local dealer, aftermarket a/c parts don't always fit just right.
