If the dealership doesn't have the Dakota you want with the accessories already on it, is there a way you can order one with the things you want? And if there is, does it cost extra than just buying a Dakota off the lot?

Ofcourse you can order. It will be a little more because they want you to take it off the lot. But not that much. If you want to buy a truck brand new, then go and order it the exact way you want it, if your going to spend that much money then get it the way you want it.

Actually, you can usually get your truck cheaper by ordering. You'll know exactly what invoice cost is and it's a guaranteed sale for the dealer.

Ordering a truck is easier & cheaper than buying off the lot if you don't have a trade-in.

If you have a trade-in you need to be persistent, but it can be cheaper too!!! I just got done going through the whole comotion of trying to order a truck w/ trade-in. I live in a big town so I had access to multiple dealers and played them off of each other.

Here are all the excuses I heard from 1 or all of them:

1) We can't tell you what your trade in will be worth in 6-8 weeks, even if we sell a mileage cap.
2) The value of your trade-in depreciateds $500 per month
3) You have to pay MSRP
4) We cannot lock in a rebate; you have to take what's available when the truck is delivered.
5) Invoice price isn't that low; I don't care what the internet says.

I called Dodge and you can lock in a rebate and/or get the better rebate if it increases when you pick your truck up. In the middle of making one deal he was pushing back & I said let's call Dodge and see what they have to say. He caved so fast when I did that.

Because you aren't looking for a specific truck tied to a lot; when the deal falls short, tell them you need to think about it and shop around at another dealer & if that is the best deal you'll be back with your business (Make sure he has your phone#.)

I was having trouble getting the numbers where I wanted between 3 dealerships... I called up a 4th dealer for the first time, told the guy this would be the easiest sale for him & he would be taking it from the competition. Told him what I wanted for price ($200 below invoice, what I wanted for trade-in & what I would put down). Dropped by dealer#4 after work so that they could look at the trade-in & he had numbers that I wanted.

It took me ~2weeks (1 visit per dealership; rest was done by phone) My truck was ordered on 2-7-03 & I found out it ships by train on 2-24-03. I'll get it the first of March.

Hope this helps,

Edgie

Guys ... stupid question likely ...

But how do you know when your truck is going to ship?

Does your dealer get that info or can you track it yourself?

As said B4, ordering is the way to go especially if you don't have a trade.

You get exactly what YOU want and the dealer pays NO INTEREST so he is willing to deal.

My case was :
reg cab, 4.8, 5 sp, 4WD...not at all common and not what Dodge "premakes" cuz that combo doesn't fit any of thier marketing profiles.

Joshua,, Ordered my new C/C in Dec. Dealer told me it would be in by the 30th of Jan. Came in on the 29th and drove it home on the 30th. So they are pretty good at knowing when it should be in. And I ordered mine because they didn't have anything on the lot with the options I wanted. I traded in my 98 C/C (They were only going to give me $2K for it until I said no . I had 190,742 miles on it.) They gave me $3 grand for mine with the $2K rebate and when it was delivered I also got $500 more in rebate. I am satisfied with the deal and really satisfied with the new truck.

Dakota03, I live in Austin, TX and I had ordered a Quad Cab (maybe it's the style of the truck too?)

A mileage cap was set on my trade and work had me putting on more miles than I wanted. I was starting to get nervous on my trade-in amount, considering I didn't expect it until late March. I didn't call my dealership for an update until this past week.

I just put all my stereo stuff on order with Crutchfield/Etronics so that it'll be here when my truck gets here.

I ordered my Dakota on the 3rd of January, and it just arrived at the dealership today. With all of the options I wanted, there was no choice but to do a special order on it. It was actually funny because none of the dealerships had a 4.7V8 4x4 Club Cab /w 4-wheel anti-lock brakes in stock

It is cheaper to order a truck. When I ordered my truck, the dealership was willing to part with 2/3's of the hold back money. They would not part with the hold back money for a truck sitting on the lot because they need to recoup those funds in order to finance their trucks from the manufacturer. I got my truck for invoice minus 2/3's of the holdback ($600), minus the cash rebate ($1500), minus the Farm Buerau rebate ($500).

Go to Carsdirect.com and find a total then ambush the dealers. Most can't compete with cars direct. My uncle bought one of those new Ford supercrews off the internet (autobytel) and took the invoice to the majority of the ford dealers in St Louis, none could compete with the internet price.

94STEVE, I got my truck through one of those sweet deals too. I work for a railroad that ships DC's products. More specifically, I helped write the program that tracks all of the vehicles on your railcars. Anywhoo, that qualifies me for DC's friends and family plan. No haggling, no dealing, just one flat rate that's cheaper than what the dealer paid for the truck. But I was told that the truck had to be on the lot. The deal wasn't good for vehicles that weren't on the lot. Could that be why you paid more when you ordered? All I know is that it brought my $30,000 sticker down to $24,000. :D

Hey edgie..I live in Austin, too. Just picked up my 2003 Dak qc 4.7 4wd I ordered from Benny Boyd in Lampassas, Tx. My salesman was Rey Rios. They made me a great deal. I ended up getting my truck for less than invoice because they threw in a bed extender after we agreed on a price. I got a $3000 factory rebate (I paid cash) plus another $500 off by joining Tx Farm Bureau ($35). They ordered this loaded truck on just a handshake (no deposit) and treated me great. Even offered to pick me up at home in Austin (70 miles one way) when the truck came in.

If you go to Dodge.com you will see under special buys that they are changing the incentives right now. I hope for you guys they go to $4000 like on the Durango. Good luck...

I just got this back from DC about the incentive. Any thoughts?

Dear Christopher:

Thank you for your email regarding incentives on your Dodge Dakota.

DaimlerChrysler offers special sales programs to create goodwill with the buying public and to provide purchasers with a better value for their dollar. However, DaimlerChrysler Motors dealers are independent businesses. As such, incentives are subject to dealer participation. Thus, the decision to offer an incentive to a customer whom orders a vehicle would lie with the dealer.

I regret that I am unable to provide a more favorable response. However, incentive programs available at the time of your delivery should apply.

Thank you for your interest in Dodge.

Like any other auto company, there is fine print. "rebates assigned to dealer" If your dealer won't give you the rebate, go to another one if you can.
If the dealer wants your business, they will give you the rebate.
