Subject: radiators & fan clutch

Hi all:
One of the more recent posts here was talking about getting rid of the viscous fan & letting the electric fan take care of all the cooling chores. My question is what type of radiator is on the Dakota (i.e. 2 row, 3 row)& do they use the same radiator for all 3 engines? Is the electric fan on there as part of the towing or heavy duty service package or do they all come equipped with an electric fan? I was thinking maybe the radiator is one of the places costs were cut (read, smaller)so Dodge felt it necessary to add an electric fan to help keep things cool.
Any thoughts?
Greg

The electric fan is actually the main cooling fan. All Dakotas should have it. The difference comes in the radiator and automatic transmission cooler, which you get with the Heavy Duty Cooling package -- and I think the R/T.

I removed my electric fan and clutch fan. I have a Black Magic 150 doing all my cooling. I also have a larger radiator, 180 degree thermostat, and Redline Watter Wetter.

It's not so much the size or rows that suck on the stock radiator, but the thickness. It could easily be twice the size, but most people don't need that much cooling, so why give it to them.

xp,

I thought you said that a wreck had damaged your stock fan/clutch and radiator?

Your post might make some think the stock is not enough.

My stock 4.7 has no belt clutch/fan, I have a 5spd, with trailer towing-which I do use it-and never had a temp issue, here in a hot climate.
