Subject: running lean! WTF!!!!!!!
IP: Logged

Message:
i have a 98 dakota 318 5spd, it has a cold air intake, edelbrock headers, 24# injectors and dual flowmasters (no cats). i have an air fuel ratio guage and the guage was saying it was running lean, i dont know how with 24#injectors. but we changed the IAC valve, and it would run lean in the mornings on my way to work, but any time after that in the day when i would drive it, it would run perfect (just under rich)it did this for a week, and then all of a sudden it started running lean again all the time. any suggestions?

It is the gauge then because I guarentee that you are running rich. I have seen R/Ts with 320RWHP that went really rich with 24# injectors.

Did you tap the stock O2 sensors or use a dedicated sensor? If you tapped the stock ones that is most likely the problem.

i have brand new o2 sensors, original ones were burnt white with 45000 miles. also forgot to mention when the guage is on lean i can let off the gas and the exhuast will steady pop. i know the guage is right. i just put another iac in and it is now running perfect. i put it on a dyno and the dyno said it was running lean. so i put the 24# in.

Hi if you have a 318 they usually run lean even with the holley TBI system but if you want to know if it is runing lean pull a couple of spark plugs out and and if its runing lean it will have a burnt nast smell that is really noticable and most 318 with TBI systems usually run lean and theres nothin wrong with that the computer makes it run lean for emissions
