Subject: Dynomax Mufflers?
IP: Logged

Message:
Hi all,

Do any of you use either the Dynomax Ultra Flow SS or Ultra Flo Welded mufflers on your trucks? I have an '02 4.7L CC 4x4 and want to use one of these mufflers. I'm looking for opinions and/or advice regarding these. What improvements did you find and is there any difference in sound from either? The Ultra Flo SS appears to be a longer muffler. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Regards,
Aaron

i was told by 2 different muffler shops here in socal that there's almost no difference between the dynomax and a magnaflow (obviously choosing 2 that are the same design) i didn't believe the first guy.. and i'm kinda leery about the second guy too. the dynomax's are a wee bit pricy anyways

I just bought a Dynomax Super Turbo at Summit for $47 with shipping(#17748).
I found that some guys with the 4.7L had better results with the SuperTurbo, I'm planning on getting mine put on today.
I think it all comes down to, everyone has a different prefrence in what they want out of a muffler, in one way or another.
I can let you know about mine after it's on, if your interested in the Super Turbo?

I'm running a 2.5" Dynomax Race Magnum on my '99 318 Dakota and I love the way it sounds , I'm not running a cat and it sounds real deep but doesn't resonate like a Flowmaster , it sets off car alarms and you hear it when you're cruising but it's not obnoxious.
BTW - I'm currently running stock manifolds , it should be much louder once I get headers but I'm going to run 2 1/2" dual or a 3 1/2" single exhaust when I get them.

Had a super turbo on my 99 and it sounded good. I cant say I lost any torque, but maybe picked up a few in the topend. I just bought the dual s.s. mbrp setup (I wanted a little louder). I would say the magnaflow would be the louder of the two.

JorDak,

Actually the guy at the muffler shop said he liked the Dynomax Super Turbo muffler the best but he hasn't heard the Ultra Flo SS or Ultra Flo Welded either... I listened to the sound clips on the Dynomax website and they had a 318cid with the OEM exhaust, Super Turbo, Ultra Flo SS and Ultra Flo Welded and the Ultra Flo's sounded the best... A little deeper and more throaty... I won't be purchasing for another two weeks so I'll definitely wait to hear how you made out with the Super Turbo... Please keep me updated...

Aaron

I run the ultra flow race welded, I think its the
best bang for the buck, very inexpensive, and
a deep throaty tone. It is super loud, cause I
had it dumped before the rear end. the
difference between magnaflow and dynomax,
is magnaflow is stainless...nice and shiney ; )
of course, a cold air intake will make it louder.

Thanks D for the reply,

I really like the sound of the Ultra Flo Welded on the 318cid on the Dynomax website... and you're right, it's fairly inexpensive as far as performance mufflers go... I was planning on just replacing the stock muffler with the Dynomax and leaving the tail pipe the same... Also, I'm in the process of building a homebrew intake... I actually bought some PVC pipe while strolling through a hardware store the other day... Slowly but surely... Does your truck have the 4.7L in it too? What kind of performance gains or decreases did you notice?

Aaron

I got the Dynomax Ultraflow SS on my 5.9L. It sounded real nice. And its stainless steel, so it aint gonna rust like flowmaster. Very sound is DEEP and just right. Not to quiet not to loud.
Would hight reccomend it to anyone.

I've been running the straight through style Dynomax (dunno what the name is anymore), it sounds nice and gives some tone a bit lower in the RPM range. Though it seemed like it took about a month to "break in" and get a good sound, that could've been the computer adjusting though.

4.7 doesnt really respond as well to a muffler
change as a 318 would. but my homebrew
intake seemed to work real well. I used the 3"
ABS sched 40 pipe, and have run it in 100+
degree wether in rushour, and no problems
with the plastic warping. the carsound cat I
just installed seemed to make the truck pull
harder at higher RPM's, but I still think I lost
some bottom end torque with the 3" catback
change. It should all respond real well as
soon as I get the K/B supercharger.

D,

I wasn't going to go with 3" exhaust, just gut the CAT out, weld a straight through pipe inside it and replace the OEM muffler with the Ultra Flo... So I'd be still using the factory tailpipe etc... I shouldn't loose low end torque by going that route, no?

Aaron

keeping the factory pipe is the way to go. It
wont be as loud, but you shouldnt lose any
low end. Gutting the cat does practically
nothing except pass visual smog. if you can,
just cut it off, and put some extra 2 1/2 pipe to
fill the gap.
