I hear the MBRP system looks/sounds the best for aftermarket mandrel bent. But it's pricy. I went the route of buying a muffler (Flowmaster Delta Series) and getting the rest custom bent. The key there is to find a shop that is good at it and doesn't kink the pipe on the press.

Borla is pretty pricey too. I ended up with the Gibson dual sport catback. Sound is killer and I've gotten more compliments than I ever imagined. That's not what I got it for, just turned out that way. Cost was less than $300 and included muffler, dual 2.5" pipes, hardware and stainless 3" tips. Definite improvement on the top end.

I have the Borla system that is single out the side. It sounded good, not real loud. I went and got the MBRP next because I wanted duals. It sounds about the same as the Borla, maybe a little louder. Both are deep sounding. If anyone wants my old Borla system email me. Horbedarn@hotmail.com

it makes no difference.

The difference b/n stainless and aluminized are two:

1) Price (stainless is A LOT more)
2) Stainless will last longer

and I suppose stainless looks better too ... so that's three differences.

If you want loud that sounds awesome and turns people's heads, call Jonas at Premier Automotive 618-406-7658, or E-mail at sales@premier-automotive.net. He just started carrying the MBRP line and was giving a discount. He is partial to Dak and Durango owners. Ask him what he can do for you. You will love the muffler. I have the 14".

I've got the Borla. I like it because it is deep and not disturbingly loud. I like the Stainless exhaust also because it will last longer.

The Borla is easy to put on also. If you just want "loud", Borla probably isn't the best bet though.

A deep throaty sound that is not very loud, but still heard would be the MBRP. It's real mellow at idle and normal cruzing. It doesn't get noticed untill you stomp on it. The in cab resonance is very small, I hardly notice it even when I'm at 5000. It's pretty quiet for an aftermarket exhuast if you have the third (later models) cat on there. I got mine fixed and now it's considerably louder and much more throaty. Not any deeper, but it makes sound past 5500 now, unlike it used to.

I am reffering only to the single, because that is what I have on my 2002 4.7L. Oh yeah, this is on a completly stock vehicle too. With some aftermarket parts it's sound should change some, but I have no idea, yet.

I would personally like my exhaust a bit louder, so I might have to change a few things on it, but it's been a nice muffler and holds up well.

I installed a 3" Mopar cat-back on my 2000 4.7. I love the sound that it produces, deep and loud.

Here's a sound clip, http://www.dodgetrucks.org/home/anthony/mopar.mp3

Note: You'll hear a slight rattling sound at WOT this is caused when the engine is cold. After the muffler has time to break-in the sound gets even deeper and louder. Adding an intake makes the sound even louder.

Anthony,
Nice site....
Tell me more about the mopar exhaust system. IS it availible from the dealer now? How much was the whole system?
I have a 2000 4.7 ext. cab 4x4. Will this be a direct bolt-on system?
Any gains in performance or MPG?
THANKS!

Hey blackmagic,

The 4.7 version of this cat-back hasn't come out yet. I ordered the 5.9 R/T version, which really makes no difference. It's all the same systems for the 3.9, 5.2, 4.7, 5.9. The whole system sells for around $250-270 that comes with everything excepted for a tip.

Here's the part no. P4876902, this will fit your dak as your dak is the same as mine. It's pretty much a direct bolt on the only thing is, there are 2 hangers on the tail pipe which the r/t comes with. But ours only comes with one tailpipe hanger, the second hanger will rub against the spare tire cut it off it's not needed. That's what I did, and never had a single problem.

As for performance gains, yes the mid and upper range did increase and an intake makes it even better. And yes MPG did increase slightly.

Take care,
Anthony

I should get a sound clip of my stock 4.7 with the single MBRP minus 3rd cat before I do anything to it so you all can hear it.

I like like Mopar exhaust, it sounded excellent.

And I think you are right about the break in too, first on, it was very quiet, but then after a while it seems it got louder. Maybe it's just me, but a couple of my friends said it sounded mch different a week or two later. My MBRP is almost as loud as a straight pipe if it's burn to the touch. After I've been running on the highway all day in the heat, my exhaust is probably twice as loud. Kinda interesting I thought.

How about some Cherry Bombs? LOL...Seriously, I am a Flowmaster fan and like the sound of my Force II 3" cat-back system. It comes with a 50 series. I removed my 3rd cat and it sounds pretty throaty. The only thing I don't care for with Flowmaster is they don't come in stainless steel, only aluminized.
