Recently purchases the new 2002, 4.7L Club Cab with the "Multi-Speed" automatic. Man... I love this truck!!!

Anyway... I want to try and flatten out the torque curve on this motor. (No torque until 3,000) Anybody know of anymodifications under $500 that will give me more torque on lower end of the RPM scale. Say between 1,000 and 3,000 RPM's.

Also, I have been considering a Gibson, dual output exhuaust and some sort of intake. All of the intakes for the 4.7L seem to take air from the engine compartment (hot air), K&N's drop in would still take in "cold air." Are the gains from say "Airaide" really worth the extra $$ as opposed to the K&N drop in?

the HO jeep cams have been proving good for torque with alot of guys here. KRC performance dynoed them at no less than 20ft/lbs over the entire curve. i haven't seen the cost over 200 bucks from anyone for the 2 cams and the chain wedge

Was hoping to find a "bolt-on" solution to the torque issue. I don't want to tear down the brand new motor to get a few more foot pounds... There has to be a way... ???

I'm guessin' since nearly the whole darn motor is computer controlled, a computer flash would be one of the best ways short of a supercharger.

Maybe run smaller tires and wheels (Daytons?) ; )
Just kiddin'. These 4.7's seem fairly efficient out of the factory. I wish I could squeeze some extra decent juice for a few hundred bucks but I'm not seein' too many options other than a Leach flash maybe???

computer flash or cams for your torque. from what i've seen by reading posts every damn day for the last 4 months, you'll lose your low end torque if you start freeing up exaust and intake with JUST bolt on parts. i think headwork, cams.. stuff like that.. will put a smile on my face. 24 more days to go

Someone was telling me that the 4.7L "Next Generation Magnum" is an overhead cam motor... is this true??? That would explain the low end torque defficiency.

I got a 68mm Fastman TB. Gained some pretty good low-end. I may get the 71mm in the future if I get some cams.

How do you know you got good low-end? Do you dyno? What other mod's do you have? What rear end are you running?

Test drove the 4.7L with 5spd man. and 3.92 gears... whauuuhuuuu!!! that thing was quick!!!

They are quick but don't compare them to the old 318. It doesn't have the low down torque of my old 318. But on top end the 318 doesn't compare. Stock to stock that is.

I'm really just going by the way it feels as well as how i'm able to shift. I have a '00 2wd 4.7L 3.92's CC SLT 5spd.

Because I have 3.92's I don't use 1st gear for regular driving. Only towing really. I don't even use it for racing (street racing..no local tracks and S.Fl. is really flat). But when I would start in second I could always kinda feel it bog down a little. As soon as I would hit 2500 rpms it would take off. Now with the TB its very smooth off the line. I shift with ease below 2000rpms (in stop and go traffic) and my mileage improved a little. So far my only other mod is a 360intakez.

I'd like to get an electric fan but I don't know how well they'd do in the S. Florida climate. So I think I'm gonna do the cams next. After some mods down the road I may upgrade to a 71mm Fastman.

But right now my girl has me wrapped up in home improvement(though not around her pinky...I still manage to piss her off alot hehehe). And she doesn't even live here!!!(yet)

Several people have mentioned the cams. I am curious... do you know what all is involved in a cam swap in these 4.7L Dakotas? I have swapped a couple in Chevy 350's and they aren't the easiest things to do with the motor still in the vehicle. Is the 4.7 and "overhead cam."

It is an overhead cam. If you can get CW's attention he knows how to do it. He said it wasn't very hard. Then again...he's a DC tech.

Since it's an overhead cam it shouldn't be all that hard to yank... I wouldn't think.

Being an overhead cam explains why this motor has NO torque below 3,000.

Has anyone put a TB Spacer on this motor? With the carberated motors, putting a 4brl spacer between the carb. and the intake will lower the power band by increasing the velocity of the air into the combustion chamber. Does that same theory hold true for the fuel injected models?

these cams are extremely easy to put in besides getting the damned valve cover out of the way. when ordering from krc it comes with intsructions. for a complete idiot it would take from 4-6 hours taking your time. so if you are a complete idiot your still in good shape. as far as the throttle body spacer is concerned, on the 4.7l the poweraid worked very well for more torgue and response. but they only make them for stock and since they are helix bored you couldnt bore them out the fit a modified throttle body. i had to get rid of mine. but while i had it i loved it and it also made a sweet supercharged sound. people were asking me left and right how many pounds i was pushing. ok, tired of writing. buh bye

I sure wish I was in the PCM flashing business. I don't think there's any way you guys can appreciate how much additional torque the right flash will give the 4.7.

As far as the cam swap? It's a piece of cake!

I am hearing alot about the PCM flashes... but I am skeptical. I was reading the AIT adjuster basically fools the computer into changing the air/fuel ratio by way of air temp. With a richer fuel mixture isn't that going to burn up the stock cats much quicker? What do the PCM flashes modify... and how do they affect the emisions standards. If I get a PCM flash am I going to pass emisions? (Phoenix, AZ)

If I go with the cams, what else needs to be done in conjunction with the cams, ie exhaust, intake, TB, ect.

i have a 1994 dodge dakota LE extended cab. it has a magnum V6 right now. i was thinking about an engine swap. i can get my hands on a chevy 350 thats brand new with 400 Hp. its a special built motor thats never been used before, its brand new. is this swap possible? if so how hard would it be. thanx.

Pretty easy, too. Learned how a looong time
ago. It's called "shift down a gear".

You'd be amazed how well the truck works after
you start workin' the gears right.
