 Subject: Extended Warranty?

I bought an '02 4.7 Quad Cab 4x4 with only 47K miles. The dealer I took it to for safety and emmissions says that looking at the plugs he doesn't think it's ever had a tune up.
Based on the recommendations of this forum I took it in for the brake and ABS light coming on under my 3 mo/3K mi warranty that came with the truck and ended up needing the entire rear axle rebuilt for over $2500. They said the limited slip had broke apart and done major interior damage.
So, now I'm left wondering this great low mileage truck seems to have not been serviced much in it's life and thinking of buying an extended waranty. The dealer offered a 5 yr/70K mi or 2 yr unlimited mi for $1890 or $1690 respectively. Considering I just saved $2500 on a new rear axle it sounds like a good investment but wondering if any of you would recommend based on the amount of major repairs your trucks may have needed?
