I recently discovered that there is a pcv valve relocation kit for dr trucks with the 4.7L. I've heard about people using it on other vehicles with a 4.7L, so i bought the kit to install on my 2000 durango 4.7L. When i went to install it i noticed the pcv port (on the intake) is at the right rear of the intake manifold. The kit comes with a small tube that goes from the new pcv valve location(left rear of left cyl head) to the back of the intake manifold.My question is-does anyone know what Intake manifold I would need to get to make this kit work?I live in Alberta Canada and in the cold weather the yellow crap can get very bad.Has anyone heard of or done this conversion?Thanks for any help.

Before buying a kit, remove the oil fill tube
from the engine (two or three 8mm bolts) and
try wrapping it with a few layers of metallic insulating tape.

I live in a cold climate too and this has really helped preventing the yellow foam build-up in my oil fill tube.

In extreme cold, perhaps fabricating a simple shield in front of the tube so the engine fan doesn't constantly cool it may help too.

A "dr" truck is the chrysler acronym for 02 and up pickups. The kit is from mopar.There is a tsb on it-for pickups only.I don't hav e a part # right now but I can post it.

Why can't the tube be shortened, say remove as much of the center of it as possible and still get oil in the motor. You need the bolt on part and the cap connect part. If you happen to have a plastic welder your in business. If not, still make the same cuts and install a piece of exhaust pipeover it. roughen the mating pieces up and use high temp silicon to glue them together. I really think this is the best answer. No fan blowing on the long tube and shorter so as to get more heat from the engine. I have a 5.2 so I can't try my idea.

And ND is Dakota starting with 2005 model year.

Seems the modification is less about the vehicle, and more about the 4.7L engine. For those of us who are just hearing about this PCV valve relocation kit, knowing the TSB number, or the kit part number would be a great help. Perhaps I can find out something from my local Dodge parts guy tomorrow, in the way of a part number and price.

For Corjunk, when I was modifying my intake system (http://www.dodgetrucks.org/forums/viewtopic.php?t=79449)
I found I could only access the PCV hose connection at the rear of the intake manifold by reaching behind the manifold from the driver's side. Most of the PCV hose run is hard plastic, but it's plain old rubber hose where it connects to the manifold. The rubber hose connection on the rear of the manifold points horizontally toward the passenger side (on my 2004's stock manifold, anyway). It's kinda tight between the manifold and the firewall, but can be done. Once you get the hose off the manifold fitting, you can compare the size of the hose from the kit, with the existing hose, and figure what it will take to hook it up.

The intake from later years may have a compatability problem since they changed some of the sensors. The '03 is not the HO version; and there's a lot of mistaken info out there on that. Originally there was a regular manifold and a specific HO manifold. Then they came out with a compromise design, used on both motors. Many mistakenly refer to that as an "HO" manifold (I guess they figure it makes their truck more similar to the HO). It's the different parts that make an HO though; not the parts that are common to both motors. It sounds like you are trying to solve the condensation problem that many with the 4.7 report, at the top of the oil fill tube. Have you tried synthetic oil ? I've never heard of any of us running synthetic oil (any variety, no brand flamers please) with that problem. Never seen it in 8 years with my New England climate 4.7.

I have tried a few differtent brands of sythetic oils all with the same outcome-condensation in the oil fill tube.has anyone done the H.O. intake manifold swap? if so where is the pcv fitting on the manifold.Oh and josh-what I meant was DR is for certain 02 and up rams,sorry for any confusion!

vernon- I read it again and it sounds like the pcv connection is on the same place as my 2000 4.7L intake-on the right rear pass side. My last question was about the H.O. intake manifold and info if anyone has done this swap.There are 2 differtent locations for the pcv connection-one one the right rear(pointing at the pass side of truck) and one at the rear (pointing towards the rear of the truck). i need info on the port that points to the rear.

Got a copy of the TSB from my local Dodge Parts Department. I can't figure how to scan it to a PDF, to post it somewhere for you guys, so you'll have to deal with my poor typing skills. I'll just touch on the first page highlights.

"Overview: This bulletin involves installing revised PCV system components."

"Note: This bulletin applies to vehicles equipped with 4.7L engines, sale code EVA".

"Symtom/Condition: Some customers operating in extreme cold ambient temperatures (Below 0*F or Neg 18*C) may experience moisture collecting in the PCV system and freezing. This can lead to a varitey of cold engine crankcase venting or driveability issues."

"Diagnisis: If a customer indicates that they are experiencing any cold engine crankcase venting or driveability symptoms, perform the Repair Procedure."

It's 8 pages, most of which detail installation depending upon the particular configuration and location of the intake manifold PCV port, as Corjunk alluded to in his original post.

In a nutshell:
It replaces the oil fill housing with a new one without a PCV valve (P/N 53020891AE), gives directions on new hose fabrication and routing, and lists other parts which may or may not be needed depending on existing configuration.

The last page has time allowance of 0.7 hours for dealer installation.

Also -
"Policy: Reimbursable within the provisions of the warranty."
What this says to me is that, because it's an "Emissions" group TSB, there may be emissions-related warranty coverage.

My local Dodge Parts department will gladly sell me a kit for $120 + tax.

If I can figure out how to scan this thing to a PDF, I'll then try to post it somewhere you all can access.
