One fuel filter is in the fuel tank. It filters the fuel just before it enters the pump.
The other fuel filter is internal to the pressure regulator, which is mounted on the tank.
Neither one can be got to without:
Lifting the bed, or
Dropping the tank.

That is correct, the fuel filter is in the gas tank.
Let me guess, you went to jiffy lube, quick lube or one of those type places. Most are a complete rip off and I would NEVER go to. Dateline NBC did a show with a hidden camera on those instant oil change places, the results were shocking.
There is the old saying "if you want it done right do it yourself"
But if I do have a shop do work on my vehicles, I try to find a reputable family owned business.
get some documentation where the fuel filter is located and go back and see the manager and demand your money back, while making a scene in front of other customers....you will get your money back.
Shame you work hard for your money and people try to screw you over!

I might be off here but, is it possible that these chuckleheads at Jiffy Lube dropped the fuel tank and replaced the filter? That's their claim and at this point I guess I need proof that they didn't do it. Are they full of it or am I a dope?

Double check with your local dealership about the filter location and ask them about cost to change the fuel filter (labor,parts, etc).
I think Jiffy lube bent you over without using any lube at all.

Just for sh1ts and grins...
Tell them you want the fuel filter changed AGAIN and are willing to pay. But this time you want to watch the filter being replaced from outside the bay and would like the old filter back.... I think you'll get your money back. I find it hard to beleive that Jiffy Lube would be dropping fuel tanks,,, or taking off truck beds.
The worst that can happen is you pay for the filter replacement again, but now know it was done.

Yep they screwed you.
There is no way jiffy lube would drop a gas tank just to change a filter. There's nothing jiffy about that job it would take a good tech a hour or better, last time I saw jiffy lubes employees, they weren't exactly worthy of being called techs. I'd say shade tree mechanics at best.
What did they charge you to change the fuel filter? If it wasn't at least 1.5hrs worth of labor and probably $40 bucks or so for the regulator/filter assy, you were ripped off. Using my shops labor rate of $65 an hour it comes up to about $130 or more, to actually do the job.
Disclaimer: No Jiffy Lube employees were harmed in the making of this post, none of the above comments were aimed at any ASE certified and trained techs that may be working in any Jiffy Lube other then the "prize" establishments near me, if any offense is taken by anyone because of this post oh well sucks to be you. The filter replacement was 60 bucks, and I was there for about 20 minutes or so. Now in their defense my truck isn't running the same so they did something. Also, this one cat claimed that they needed a "mopar" removal tool, what the heck that is I have NO clue. Last I checked you used regular hand tools to do all of this work.

It's running rough, so a little worse. That and when they started it, it smoked like I've only seen it do once before and that was after sitting for a two or three weeks un started.

You sure they did a fuel filter change or did they do a fuel system clean, where they clean the throttle body and put a can of fuel injector cleaner in the tank?

Visual checks:
1. Check the hardware that bolts the tank support bands to the chassis/frame, to see if they show evidence of recent tool marks, knocked-off dirt, etc.
2. Check the tank support bands for areas that look like they've been recently handled.
3. Check the tank in the band area to see if the bands are still in their original location, or if they've been shifted a bit, as would happen if the bands had been removed.
4. Look for evidence of handling on the tank itself.

I'm sure they charged me for the fuel filter replacement. I'm going to check the area where it was "removed" and see if it looks like it's been worked on. I just have a gut feeling that they didn't do anything more than charge me.

sounds like they charged you for a fuel filter and gave you a $5 can of Seafoam. at least Seafoam works. they could have even used STP gas treatment. i hate dishonest business owners. i'd never pull that kind of crap on my customers.
