You can do them yourself if you have some sockets and a couple
wrenches. You need to remove the heat shields covering
the stock manifolds. I would then put some WD-40 on the bolts
attaching the manifolds to the y pipe since they will most likely
be rusted up pretty bad. There are two bolts on each y pipe
side. There is a piece at the top that keeps the bolt from
twisting when you loosen the nut on the other side. Check first
to make sure you have these locking tabs holding the bolts in
place. If so, should be a piece of cake to loosen the nuts on
both sides. If it doesn't have the locking tab (I removed mine
when I replaced the bolts) I use a box wrench and it jams
perfectly against the steering shaft so I can lie underneath the
truck and crack the nut. Same procedure for the other side, but
I forget what the wrench jams up against.

Now for the bolts going into the block, I'd use WD-40 again
because sometimes the bolts the factory uses get stuck in the
head and you have to use a jam nut to break them loose. A
couple of the bolts are threaded at both ends as they have
adapter sleeves and what not on them. I was surprised when I
removed my manifolds and saw they did not use a gasket, they
were machined perfectly. Anyway make sure you have gaskets
to put on with your headers. Process is now the reverse.

Since I've changed my headers a couple times I remove the
plastic wheel well liner and it's a breeze to change out the
manifolds. The factory retainers I don't think are reuseable
though, I use something else to hold them in place. You should
be able to do this all in 1.5 to 2 hours tops since it's the first
time. Recheck the header bolts going to the block now and then
and make sure you clamp down good on the y pipe flange bolts
as they will work themselves loose and cause a very noticeable
exhaust leak.

wow, i can see this is gonna be a fun way to screw up somethin. I guess I'll give it a shot when the headers show up, but it should be a couple weeks... I just hope i dont end up with bush screws...

Thanks...
