Some times you also need to change out the cable

and there is one other thing.

92 to 95 have EGR you need a 92 to 95 V8 body

96 and up have no EGR and you need a 96 up V8 body

Or you will have idle probs

Took a closer look at my original t-body today and discovered all i need is the plastic piece at the end of the throttle cable to make it work, so i went to a local junk yard and couldn't find the piece which is also used on the cuise control cable to. They had a smahed 97 dak there but the throttle cable didn't have that piece and the cruise control cable was already gone. So I took the plastic end off the kick down cable which is somewhat similar but i had to cut it because it was too long. It should work, but if it doesn't I'm just going to take the end off my cruise control cable because it don't work anyway. What is an EGR?

Just got my 48mm TB on today! So far its great. Did it with simple hand tools in the apatment parking lot.

$42 for TB cable from stealership (ouch).
$43 for TB off ebay (cool.)
$7 for gasket at murray's discount auto.

A few things:
1) Clean the IAC solenoid first!!! My idle on my first start up was smoother than my original TB. Which is contrary to others' experiences. Instructions on how to do this are on the Speedtweaks web site.

2) The cable wasnt hard at all, once i figured it out. Looking at the new cable will help out tremendously. (Obviously.) One thing to try is disconnect the cable from the pedal, and unbolt the pedal mounting bracket from the chassis. This allows easier access to pop the cable loose. Some people have had problems with the cable, and to no offense to them, i say wtf? If it does cause problems and bloody knuckles, step back and look at your strategy and tools and hit yourself in the forehead.

3) Take off the air hat (completely, by taking off the cover to the air filter and a tube going into the intake), using a metric 24 socket (metric channel locks might work too ;)). Pop off the two sensor wires and the IAC solenoid wires. And the tube around front. and you know the rest. Careful not to over-torque any bolts!

After getting this done in about an hour, i gave my engine a few minutes of idling and then drove it slow and noticed gains all around.

I dont have my engineering degree yet ;), but i cant see how this TB will affect low end torque. It sure doesn't feel like ive lost anyhting. I havent gone WOT from idle though, as this may suffer slightly, but who cares? With the throttle body opened to get to a certain RPM, the cross sectional area of the opened butterfly valves will be the same with any throttle body. However, there are other factors such as air horns, torque steps, etc., blah, blah, blah.

One thing that is definite and unarguable: RESPONSE. Just tapping the throttle and the rpms jump. The cost of the TB is worth this alone.

Im gonna shut up and drive now. This mod rocks and anyone with any mechanical sense at all can do it!

One thing I forgot to say. (Actually I just ran out of breath from my last schpeel.)

Thanks to everyone else on this board to give me the confidence and info on how to do this.

(And if you are still looking for your metric channel lock pliers, please do not attempt this project at all.)

Dont hold me to it, but I think the cable needs to be changed as well. My TB was off of a 318. Just take a glimpse under the hood and look to see if the connectors on the linkage between the cable and the TB look the same. Im sure the info you need is in the forums somewhere.

In response to the idea of having no difference in low end power with the V8 TB, you should try a TB from the Fastman. WOW! the 46 mm plates and his excellent machining make it 10 times better than the low buck V8 swap. There is a definate loss in low end from the V8 TB compared to the stock V6, no question about it. Now on the other hand the Fastman TB is very crisp and responsive right from idle to max RPM. This is no doubt the best mod other than the 1.7 Harland Sharp rockers, that I have ever done.

So even with the loss at bottom end, is it still worth the swap?
