I was just woundering how much of a diffrence that relocating the IAT sencor makes. Does it change gas milage, horse power, or smoth out your idle?

I lost about 1 to 2 mpg, I had a minor problem with the engine "loading up" while idling,but I definatly got some seat of the pants power gain. It inhanced my other minor modifications just great.

I think i'm gonna try doing it. I've heard more good than bad. Plus, it's not permanent. I'm to the point where I dont really care about gas costs, as long as I have fun driving. I already get bad milage, so why not make it worse?

I swapped mine back to the stock location to varify it was causing my idle problem and thats when I really noticed how much it improved power. Do you understand what it does?

Into a hole I drilled into my homemade intake tube. I did'nt spice the wires or any thing like that, I made my new "port" within reach of the wires.

I did mine u could really tell the diffrence in power the mileage did go down 2 mpg. The weather turned cold and running to rich so put it back to stock. for it being so cold and in stock location it still runs like it in the intake tube and the mileage is up too

The IAT sensor tells the engine how warm/cold outside air coming into the engine is. The PCM (computer) uses this information (and other info) to adjust air/fuel mixture - cold air = more fuel (richer); warm air = less fuel (leaner). By relocating the IAT sensor farther upstream (into the intake tube), you are isolating it from engine heat that soaks up through the metal manifold - which, by keeping it cooler, tells the engine to add more fuel to the A/F mixture. More fuel means more power; more fuel also means lower fuel economy.
Typical modern engines are designed to provide a decent compromise between fuel economy and power. Relocating the IAT sensor biases the engine's performance more toward power.
Winter mileage with a cold IAT sensor will suck a$$, compared to summer mileage with a relocated IAT sensor. I'm considering getting a second IAT sensor and installing it into the stock location (intake manifold) for winter driving. I simply plug into the appropriate one for the hot or cold season.
Question: Do you think the sensor's poking out into the airstream (stock location) disrupts airflow or otherwise affects efficiency?
