a have a couple of questions.

Everyone seems to run the K&N Gen II, but it's not made for the v6, from what I understand it's not hard to "rig" just wondering if I could get a little more clerification on that. Also, I noticed that The Speed Tweeks performance packages for the v6 in clude Intense Performance Stage II 7" Power Stack intakes, are they better? And if so is it possible to run the 9" powerstack.

On another note I've noticed that my engine has a pretty large engine fan, which of course is good, but I've also noticed a large electric fan attached to the radiatior as well. My question is would the Radiator fan be enough to cool the engine by itself (I mean remove the blades on the engine fan ro take the weight off the pully) or is it just better to swich out a light weight engine fan or get a more powerful electric one, or both.

Sorry to ramble on but I've been wondering about this for a while. I have a bone Stock 3.9L CC if that helps.

Thanks for the imput.

Bear in mind that the 3.9L V6 is based on the 5.2L V8 - Minus two cylinders of course.

Yes, you can modify the K&N Gen-II to fit the V6 without any problems. Minor bending of the heat shield to fit and moving the cruise-control (if required).

The main difference between the Intense Performance Intakes and the K&N Gen-II is that the IP Intake retains your factory airhat and has a 3" tube...rather than the 4" tube on the K&N. The 7" Powerstack (or BigMouth) is more than adequate for even a Supercharged V6 running 10# boost.

On the auxillary fan, it's just that...an added fan mainly for the A/C cooling. No, you can not run the engine just off of the aux. fan as it's not big enough to keep the engine cool.

I just put an after-market electric fan on my 93/3.9 and haveing trouble with the thermostatic switch. Is there a trick to make this thing come on when it should? It's the Hayden setup.

Thanks, Larry

Larry,

If this is the Hayden 16" with auto-temp switch (I used to run it)...you need to put the temp probe through the radiator core right next to the upper radiator hose.

Run the engine until it starts to get warm and turn the knob until the fan turns on and then back the knob until it turns off. That's the initial setting. Let the engine continue to idle until it's at the temp where your T'Stat is rated at (180-195). Then, turn the knob slowly until the fan turns on. You may need to play with it a few more times to get it where you want...but that's the basics.

Many thanks Bernd, I'll give that a try at first light. I was following mfg's instructions and, they are often wrong.

My experience...

I have the KN Gen II and had no problems bolting it right in (tight fit though). I didn't have to bend the heat shield or mess with the cruise (don't have it). One thing, I did wrap my AC line with black tape because the air filter rubs against it. Its not a huge piece, just the contact point. I do not need the wire mesh of the filter messing with the line.

I had the same A/C line problem; didn't want to move it. The Powerstack filter I replaced the old K&N with is a little better about that. Funny... I have cruise and it's not in the way. Don't know where it's at, but it's not in the way!

Anyone put up a screen or something like that behind the grille to reduce the number of bugs caught by the filter? I'm wondering if a nylon-type mesh tacked onto the back of the grille would melt or catch fire.

Zaurusman,

What size powerstack filter did you purchase? Does the filter come in contact with the AC lines like the stock KN? I've been think of getting a second filter and increasing the size. Does the powerstack use the same type of cleaning kit like the KN? I have a new cleaning kit and would like to make use of it.

I have a K&N Gen II intake. But i think it's a different one tham the one you guys are talking about. I have one that's a 14"x3" chrome intake assembly. It looks like something you'd see on a v8 muscle car. So...it kinda makes me wonder, did i really have to spend that much money, or could i just have gone down to the local dirt track racers depot and pic up a identicle set up for half the price. Made by the same company.
