 Subject: 1990 3.9 V-6 enigine surge

hello all. I have a 1990 dakota with a 3.9 V-6. It revs kinda high as soon as i start the engine and goes to a normal idle after a couple of seconds. It also surges when i tap the gas pedal, meaning if i rev the motor up a little then let off the gas, it will almost die then rev up on its own then back to idle. it will do this whether it is in park or in gear, which can be kinda dangerous because it will make the truck lunge forward when it surges like this. Any ideas what the proplem could be? i dont have any stored codes and the check engine light is not on.

change the throttle position sensor, and check the idle air control valve.

I own a Dodge Dakota 1989 with a v6 and recently tends to surge ahead without touching the gas pedal after stopping at intersections.Sometimes it stalls at intersections too. Today the truck seriously vibrated when turning off the engine. Any suggestions would be helpful.Thanks

You should start by checking for fault codes.
