Hi there, is there a way that I get better gas miliage from my 99 4X4 V6. When I first got it was getting about 19 on Highway and 15 around town, now its about 10-12 around town, motor has 83K on it have changed 02 sensors Iat and most others, cam sensor, cap plugs wires etc. had it on a comp. to line up all. Any one out there that has a simple way to solve this without bankrupting my social security check.

Check ur fuel pressure. And check ur injectors if they are
leaking.
I have a 2000 dakota, I have 97,000 on it.
And it gets 10.5mpg in the city, but my truck has heavy mud
tires.
My friend has one too(stock tires) and he gets 12 mpg.
Could be cause of the season, it's winter so u get MPG drop
And u could be using that winterblend gas. 10% ethanol I
believe...ask ur gas station if they use that stuff for winter, it
will cause mileage drop.

It won't cause that kind of drop. We have it year-round here, it barely affects gas mileage. Something else is wrong.

Sounds like you need to do a little troubleshooting to me too. I have the same setup - 3.9 4x4 from 1999 and i regularly get 18-19 highway, higher if I baby it, and better in mild temperatures without the winter fuel blend. Stock except for a little better breathing and autolite plugs (I think they were) and a throttle body spacer (free to me off a cash-4-clunker).

Would a catalytic converter have to do anything about this? A valve job was done on this 99 and after the front 02 sensor went bad due to antifreze coming through the exaust system, would it affect the converter in such a way to get bad miliage. The shop said it would be OK?

Sometimes it's OK, sometimes it quenches the platinum element and shatters it, clogging the converter. If that happened, there'd be a noticeable loss of power, even hard starting.

Thanks Bob, the truck starts on the dime with no power loss. One thing the exaust tailpipe inside color is pure black were when it was new was brownish?

thats a exhaust leak..what i did to solve that is went to the local muffler shop...gave em 250 bux and they installed a single in dual out magnaflow with 3 1/2 in turn dwns and removed my cats, they were replaced with spacers...turns out the leak was in the cat...
