I have the engine just sitting around and i have a 93 dakota with a V6 standard tranny. My concern is whether or not the engine will bolt to the tranny. I haven't done much work with gas engines and trannys because I am a crane mechanic. any help would be appreciated.

fvfdf_20, if I'm reading this correctly you want to know if the 350 Chevy will bolt to your Dak trans/bellhousing. The easy answer is No. You may however be able to get an adapter plate to make it work. You may try transdapt, you will most likely have to fab up engine mounts as well.
It would probably be easier to trade the chevy for a small block Dodge/Chrysler they will bolt up to your bell housing, and you may still may have to fab some motor mounts, but everything else like the altanator, and other acc. would, or should bolt up without any problems. The thing is, if your into car crafting, then figuring out the little problems are part of the fun. I once read where actually swapping to a different engine is the easy part, its the little things that cause the most problems, having done a few engine swaps myself I can agree with that.

thanks man. I believe i may have found the info i was looking for. according to what i have researched that truck should have an aisin warner ax-15 transmission. from my findings it seems its quite popular mounting this tranny to a chevy 350. I have also found the adapter to mount the gm bellhousing to this tranny. And yes i do agree there will be some fabbing to do. any advice for tackling this is greatly appreciated.

that ax-15 tranny is known to be NOT so durable. if you're going to beef up that 350, i would recommend going with the New Venture NV3500 which is behind 5.2's, 4.7's and later model 3.9's

I can see this guy using what he has, if he's easy on it, it could last until he can get a better trans to use. I once put a 75 Caddy 500 cube in a 77 chevy, lots of power, and even pretty good fuel mileage. (around town 12, highway I got 16) If the man wants to try something different, I ask why not? While it is easier to change within the same companies products, it can make for an interesting project.
I wish him good luck and let us know how it turns out.

Actually trying to keep these older trucks going can nickle and dime you to death. I have found though that by keeping my old truck it is cheaper than buying a new one. I had my trans rebuilt 3 times, twice because a company called "High Gear" in Memphis didn't know how to rebuild a New Process 585 trans, then found a guy in a junk yard that new what he was doing and got it right. Plus I rebuilt the engine, that was very expensive but worth it. Now its just the up keep. I do think in the near future I will need to rebuild/replace the rear axle. That is just a part of owning any car or truck that has a few years on it.
