hey every one. i love this site and i plan on joining in the next few day. to get to the point i am 16 years old and i bought my first truck this week w/ my OWN money. lol im not a spoild child. needless to say i worked my but off to buy a 2002 Dodge dakota SXT with the 3.9 automatic. while saving up i set extra money aside to mod up the truck. I want to increase my MPG mainly but i also would like some extra hp. I plan on making a home brew CAI with a u bend mandrel piping and i want a dual side exhaust. i want it to be as loud as possible with the dual do i am thinking of super 40 flowmaster with 2.25 piping and 3" tips. would i loose alot of back pressure with that set up. finally waht other modifications can i add to assist in mpg and hp.

You might want to tell us what kind of gas mileage you are getting now. The best route to better gas mileage is with a good tuneup. The mods you mention will most likely not give you any increase in performance or gas mileage. Anything you can do to get maximum timing advance, without pinging, will increase both your gas mileage and performance. Some people do the crank sensor mod, other use a tuner like Superchips and others use both.
There are other mods like removing the clutch fan and installing an electric one. Under drive pulleys is yet another mod but some people get mixed results. Both mods can deliver increased performance without sacrificing fuel efficiency.
I don't by into the back pressure issue because in a cat back system the increased size of the exhaust no longer has any affect on scavenging characteristics. In fact, I don't believe it is a problem after the y-pipe, but that's just my opinion and no one has ever been able to explain or show otherwise.
NOTE:
Don't forget, after you do all of those mods, you may lose gas mileage due to the fact that you can't keep your foot out of it.

i get about 16mpg now. and as for the mods i mentioned above i just relyy like the sound of the intake and exhaust

i am but the reason for those first to is because of hopefully more power and mpg(this is my main goal with these mods) but if they don't work for the best at least the truck will be louder.

I gave you some ideas on your other post
first thing I woud do is go to ngk.com and get
some good o2) o2's in there
this is the most important sensor they get lazy
around 60,000 miles will not trip a code or be
detectible with a scanner they will show ok
but with an ociliscope you can see the wave
pattern is way off
do this before any mods or you may not see any
gains from any thing you do

Larry, or anyone else that might know
i ran leaded fuel after i put a new NGK NTK o2 sensor in,
i read on the instructions that came with the sensor that
running leaded fuel will screw with it, i only ran about 20
miles on it with the race fuel... do you guys think the sensor
is damaged? the trucks runnin fine right now, im just excessively curious

I seriously doubt that you left lead deposits after only twenty miles of driving. I've occasionally thrown in a couple of gallons of 100LL to stop my truck from pinging on some crappy gas.
