Subject: throttle body spacer IP: Logged
Message: has nayone played with the throttle body by placing a throttle body spacer in? i have a HELIX from jcwhitney.com and i notice the performance difference between that and my edelbrock air intake. but what im wondering is if anyoone knows something else to get more performance without having to give away my arm and leg. thanx.

Message: Because of the design of the barrel intake the
spacers do not help on the mag motors
The only way to get more air in is a bigger
trottle body
V8 body may need cable around $100 mid and top
gains low end will remain the same or suffer
a small lose
46mm fastman or 48mm F&B $250 and $380 offer gains
from off idle to redline
All 3 bodies offer a peak gain at the wheels of
15 to 18hp and 20 25 torque
This with a set of 1.7 rockers are 2 of the best
performance upgrades you can do

Message: They don't help unless you drill and tap them out. Then install 50hp shot of NOS.

Message: I was kinda kidding bout the NOS. But the bottom end of the 3.9's are pretty tough. I think Larry has even said (on an old post somewhere around here)that they'll take a 75hp shot. I was just throwing the idea out there of drilling and tapping out some of these TB spacers. Alot of us have tried these spacers and now these spacers are lying around on work benches collecting dust.

Message: The stock 3.9 will handle a 100 shot
It will also handke a S/C running 8 pounds of
boost
1 thing here you need a boost retard control to
pull some timing out while under boost
some I have seen run with 6 lbs at 0 most have to
pull 1 or 2 degrees on the boost control
I ahve also turned the stock lower ends 6000rpm
with no problems
you can have some machine work done on the crank
and than run the wider 318 rod and bearing if
your real serious go with a h or I beam rod I am
running the H beam rods in both my stroker motors
