Car broke down yesterday. Its a 4WD, 1989, V6 Dakota. Here are the bullet points that I know of so far:

-Prior to Brake Down
1.Rough Idle Starting Tuesday of this Week
a.Idles normally around 500RPMs.
b.After 45 min drive, I stop engine for 5 mins
and restart again; Engine now idles Rough
and at 900RPMs.
c.Tranny appears to be slipping or shuddering
around same time Rough Idle started - day after.

-Thursday Afternoon Break Down
1.While driving at 35-40 miles per hour engine cuts out on me and reads out Code 11.
a.Code 11 - 'No Distributor reference signal detected during engine cranking.' -Service Manual
b.Code 11 - 'No Crank Reference signal detected during engine cranking.' -Chilton's Repair Manual

Solution:
-Replaced Distributor Pick-Up Assembly*
-Replaced Distributor Rotor

*Condition of Old Parts:*
-Rotor: Tip was Pitted; Prong-part was bent out of alignment
-Pick-Up Assembly: No blatant abnormal use
-Distributor Body: Some oil on outer rim of body
-Distributor Cap: Terminals were charred/eroded and plastic was slightly scuffed/melted on two/three of them. Suggests contact from the Rotor. (Note: This cap is less than 5K old)

I wasn't getting code 11 prior to yesterday after break down. According to Chilton Maunual the 'Distributor Pick-Up Assembly' is also a 'Camshaft Position Sensor' and 'Sync Signal Generator.' As soon as the rain stops I am going to chech for spark, run through all tests and procedures for a no start engine. Right now ignition key cranks to starter but engine doesn't start. Thought this had to do with Code 11 so I replaced Pick-Up Assembly today. Still won't start. Could this be related to fuel? Would a fuel pump cause the engine to stall and read code for 'No Crank Reference signal detected during engine cranking?'

Guess thats the next thing I will be checking.

I should also note that at the exact time it stalled, I was pressing the Over-Drive Button to unlock the Torque Converter. At the exact instant I pressed it the engine stalled. I am thinking now that it is a Solenoid in the Transmission that caused it. I just read an article on a 'T.C.C.' Solenoid in the Transmission that caused Engine Stall. If Any One Knows what a TCC is let me know.
