Hi,
I have a quick question. I have a 97 Dakota, 53,000 miles, V6 magnum. I noticed the other day that there is some coolant on the passanger side floor. I cleaned it up and a few days later it came back. Does anyone know where this is coming from? How to fix? Thanks for your help.

Sounds like a heater core leak.
The Heater core itself might be leaking or the hoses going to it might be.

Dont not use any kind of stop leak you might clog you core it might fix the leak but u might not have heat. It is better to get a new one if it is bad

Listen to: he.
I killed my heater core by using stop-leak. Somehow the radiator survived to old age and high mileage, in spite of me.
The problem was cured by actually fixing the leak.
How you fix the heater core is by removing the entire dashboard and replacing the core. Mine cost $400.00 to be done.

Hey Tom,
I was reading in my chiltons manual that this should be done by a trained mechanic. Not only does it take along time, you have to worry about the airbags, connections, wiring etc. I usually do pretty much everything else by myself, but I will bring mine in to have it fixed.

For those of you interested, if your vehicle can come with airbags then the chilton or haynes or any manual all say to take it to a mechanic. This is called "cover your ass". if you set off your airbag you can't sue them for your problem. There are so many people out there in the world today willing to blame anyone but themselves that companies have removed all possiblities of liablity. disconnect the battery and wait a min. the airbag circuit will depleat the caps and be useless. make sure not to damage the circuits or sensors, just the same as if you were working on anything else in your truck.
Anyone ever changed a headlight without disconnectiong the battery?!? according to the manual 1)disconnect the negative from your battery 2).... etc... As with anything if you don't think you can hadle the job, get someone who can. Sorry to post so long but it drives me nuts when people see anything to do with the airbags or abs brakes and then that all has to go to a mechanic.

those chilton manuals are okay for small things but i wouldn't get to wrapped into something with one of those, if you want to do the job right by yourself, get a shop manual online or order one from dodge, i have done the heater core replacement by myself and it's not to hard, if you have time, a good memory and alittle mechanical no how then by all means go ahead, it only cost me 57 for the core and about 20 bucks for the coolant, o and if you are worried about the air bags, disconnect your battery and then pull out the fuses, o by the way make sure you take pictures and make diagrams so you don't forget how to put it all back.

The path of the righteous man is beset on all sides with the iniquities of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men. Blessed is he who in the name of charity and good will shepherds the weak through the valley of darkness, for he is truly his brother's keeper and the finder of lost children. And I will strike down upon those with great vengeance and with furious anger those who attempt to poison and destroy my brothers. And you will know that my name is the Lord when I lay my vengeance upon thee
