 Subject: Rev Limiter = Damage?

If i hit the rev limiter, does it do any damage? the first time i hit it, i think it was fine, the second time i hit it, when ever i accel or take off the gas, the car bucks alittle, the RPMs also seem to rise + fall alittle. Could i have bent a push rod, damaged the drive train?
Its a 5 speed, also, if i get the mopar PCM (which removes the rev limiter) and get better rockers, & hardend push rods, how do i know how far i can take it into the RPM band?

It shouldn't -hurt- it if you don't do it all the time. I hit it every now and again whenever I launch from first and get seriously into it. Stupid first gear is next to useless. :0)
Really, there is no reason to go above 4500 RPM. Thats when the valve float starts, you can push that up a bit by putting in harder springs, but the engine power -really- drops above 4250 it seems. I find it best to shift between 4000 and 4500, with the 3.55 rear that drops it back to about 2750, right when it's starting to make the 'grunt' power.
If you want to run your engine at higher RPMs, get the pushrods, roller Rockers, better valve springs, crank balanced and blueprinted, and better main bearings (just to be safe), I'd also change the timing chain out to a higher performance one. But, like I said, unless you do some serious mods to the engine, it's not making a lot of power up there. :0)
The rev limiter on these trucks works by cutting the ignition out, I believe, then turning it back on when the RPMs drop low enough. So you get the on/off/on/off surges at the limiter.

The rev-limiter is there so you don't brake your engine. My buddy lives on the rev-limiter and has no damage to his engine.
