I got an estemate of $430 to paint the following..
Keep in mind I have a dakota sport...so, all parts that are black on there, will be painted RED.
Front bumper peice
roll pan
5 door handles/tail gate
2 mirrors
Sound about right to you?

gosh..seems high to me? but they are all plastic and my buddy ryan told me that is much harder to paint than metal objects...i would find someone around who is knowledgeable and do it yourself if you have the time.

Sounds expensive..but honestly probably about right at a shop. Its all plastic, which is harder and more expensive to paint, and custom work on top of it.
Like Justin said if you have some skills try it yourself, you could probably do it. Besides theres not really anything that you could do to it that couldnt be redone by the shop later if it really does turn out bad.

Yea, I have the basic knowledge of paint. No time....AT ALL. I hear it's a good price if they do it right. The post in the general forum is more detailed than this reply, I just dont feel like re-typing all of it. :o(

I work at a body shop and that price is about right. Actually seems cheap comparred to where I work. Plastic parts require a special paint mixture so that the paint doesnt crack when the plastic is bent a little. If it is done right the body shop will take of the door handles and tail gate handle and mask the mirrors which is a little more labor thats why you are paying that price. If you take them off for them and have them paint them you might get it a little cheaper.

Yea, I plan on taking them the items in peices. No reason to leave my truck there with the risk of my system and rims to get stolen. Seems to be a popular thing to do around here anyways, lol.
Cheap is cheap, if you are cheap, expect crappy outcomes. I could easily paint the bumpers myself, but why go through the hastle of buying the paint and doing it yourself when there are perfectly qualified people out there to do it for me. And, I HAVE NO TIME!!! I wouldnt dare do the handles and mirrors, I've heard horror stories.

i was thinking of painting my handles and mirrors too. i got the ram head tail light covers and they were easy to paint. the handles and mirrors can be much harder. just went to pepboys, bought a can of primer, paint, and clear coat, all were made by plastikote. then scuffed them up with scotchbrite real good. put on 2 layers of primer, sanded it a little, 2 coats of paint, sanded again, 1 more coat of paint, then 2 coats of clear. they came out great and match the truck perfectly. o yea, u just gotta make sure not to touch the surface, and to run it under water after sanding. takes a while but they really turned out good.

actually it sounds really cheap. RED is the MOST expensive color of auto paint. period. I had minor scratches in a door repainted and they charged me 330 bucks for the job, 8 years ago, color,, Flame Red. and that was the cheapest of 4 estimates.

The reason red is more is because it is very eye catching so it makes it harder to match. Would not suggest trying to paint anything red with a store bought spray can. If you do it yourself have the shop mix the paint for you and spray it yourself. You will get better results. Black is much easier to match.

After reading up on painting the plastics, I think I'll let the professionals handle it.
It's actually going to be alot cheaper than $430. I went ahead and took off work to dismantle the truck myself, thus saving a ton of money on my car insurance...er...door handle/mirror/bumper x 2 painting. (damn commercials)

People don't realize that automotive paints arent cheap and plastic is considered a "custom job".
It came out to be $400 for....
The ENTIRE front end.
5 door handles/tail gate handle
Roll Pan
2 Mirrors
Not too shabby at all. The truck looks a whole helluva lot better.
