Been installing my lift for the past 4 hours and no real big suprises. EXCELLENT!

Took the bumpers abd everything off
Put the pucks under the cab and then the bed.

What orue do the cab bolts need to be tightened to ?

I'll modify the fan shroud tommorrow and mount the bumpers. I'll also be welding in my transfer case lever extension (I pulled the whole thing off of the truck)

For those with rear hitches, did you get extra bolts from a hardware store to put in the hitch mounts. If I move the bumper up 3" and drill new holes the hitch won't be bolted on anymore. How did you guys do this?

Thanks
Corey

That should say torque for the cab bolts.

I could not find a torque spec in any of my books for the bolts, I just made them TIGHT.. And dont forget the red locktite!

Look closely at my pics online,

http://www.prostreet.org/dakotalift

I too have the rear hitch and noticed you could not use the upper bolt, so i decided just to weld it a little, you can see this is a coujple pics I took... and I did also use a new single bolt instead of the factory one for the 3rd bolt..

My fan shroud was fun, cut the ear off with an air powered cutoff wheel. It was just tricky, but worked out great...

Good luck, keep us posted!

Hey Dr. V, what size tires are those BFG ATs? They look sweet on your truck especially without the white lettering showing on the outside. Nice pics!

They are P285/75R 16's (33x11.5) I could have went with a 12.5 i guess, but I do have a little bit of rubbing on the frame at about a turn and a halfof the wheel from center.. I'm pretty happy with them!

Well the Loctite has dried and there is no budging them. Oops. Everythng seems fine but I know they are tighter than 55 ft lbs.
I learned an important lesson. The instruction say "lift the passenger side, install blocks, then lift drivers side and install blocks then tighten all bolts." What they should say is lift passenger side, install blocks, then lift drivers side and install blocks then remove each bolt one at a time and apply loctite and then tighten bolt. I made the mistake of putting loctite on the passenger side then lifting the drivers side. By the time I came back to the passenger side the loctite had set and the bolts were locked in place. Couldn't torque them accurately at all.

My lift took me 4 hrs Friday:
Removed bumpers and shifter
Installed all lift blocks

4 hours saturday:
Install and remove shifter which I had weled extension to, tweaked handle to get it to work properly. install and remove again, repeat until transfer case shifted smoothly.
Drill holes for the front bumper outer mounts and mount bumper
Modify fan shroud
drill and mount rear bumper.

Truck looks great.

For those of you with gap guards (lift lips), the instructions say to remove stock guards. Did you do this or just mount them over the stock ones?

Where did you guys mount the little rubber bushing for the spare tire rod. It says to move it from the hole in the body and insert it in the hole in the frame? The only hole in the frame it passes through isn't quite big enough to let me install the bushing.

I drilled the bumper and thats good. That hole is to allow the tool to be inserted to lower the jack. What I'm talking about is behing the bumper the rod goes through a rubber bushing that is mounted to the body. After the body is lifted your supposed to install the bushing in the frame according to the instructions. I'm wondering what hole thay are talking about. Right now the rod is only attached at the winch and just sort of bounces around and I can hear it on bumpy roads.

Wow, mine is mothing like that.
All it says is "remove the crank od from vehicle and remove rubber bushing". Then after the body lift it says "install the crank rod bushing in the hole in the frame and reinstall crank rod."
What hole in the frame?

you got me. i'll be installing the lift tomorrow night. i was under the impression that the lift for the '99 was the same as the one for the '02. all i know is i checked all the bags to make sure i had the parts and read through the instructions. i haven't compaired anything to the truck yet. i will let you know when i get through it.
in the meen time, if i were you i would use some zip ties to hold up the rod. i'll keep you posted.

The instructions are correct... the hole in the frame is a little bit smaller than the original hole and you may have to persuade it in there...

As far as loctite goes, i waited until all the spacers were installed, then pulled them oujt one by one an put on the loctite...

I'm getting a squeeking in the bed area, i think its from the rubber strip between the cab and the bed? That's my last bug to work out, besides perhaps the rubbing problem in the front, ight grind more frame away and/or check out limit stops...

BTW : The 4.7L kits are a little different then that '99 and under 5.2L kits....

Glad everything went well for you, hope to see some pics!

I'll be posting pics in a few weeks when I'm finished. I'm going out of town this weekend. Next weekend I'll put my lift lips on and fab up some new brackets for my nerf bars so I can put them back on. Then I'll crank up the torsion bars, intall 1" blocks, and install the 33's.
