Subject: Body lift for '95 with V-8?
IP: Logged

Message:
PA shows a 2 inch body lift for the '95 Dakota, but says it does not work with the V-8. Why not? Assuming I can handle a bit of custom work, should I try to put this lift on my truck?

If the 2" is for a 4x4, it will fit. I have had one on my 95' for three years...with no mods to do it. The 3" would be another story. You can have the cab and bed lifted in a couple hours. It will take most of the remaining weekend to properly relocate the bumpers...a must to avoid the CHEEEEZZZY look. It is worth the effort. Lower the spare tire and remove the lowering tube under the bed before you raise it or you will be looking for another tube! That part was not in my instructions. You will have to enlarge the hole in the crossmember of the frame to get the tube back in, no big deal. Your original fenderwell skirts up front will cover sufficiently, the rear can be covered by trimming some black yard border and attaching with some outdoor silicone sealant(NOT RTV -IT IS CORROSIVE). Mine is still securely in place. No drilling needed. Good luck

The reason why you don’t see a 3” V8 body lift is because of a clearance issue with the lower radiator hose and cooling fan. The radiator lifts with the body and the fan no longer clears the hose. I have seen many people switch to an electric fan setup to use a body lift. As to why P.A says the 2” won’t work with a V8, I don’t know. I was under the impression a 2” would fit and the fan would just clear the hose with no modifications. Maybe they’re playing it safe.

I have a 92 and I am going to purchase a 3" body lift...I thought it was just the fan shround that caused a problem? And if the rad hose is the problem how can you fix it?

I got mine on Saturday. According to the directions, for a V-8 you have to replace the lower radiator hose and cut the bottom of the fan shroud, but that's all. I'll probably switch to an electric fan when I do the 5.9 swap so that shouldn't be a problem.

i got the 2 inch performance accessories and put it on my 95 with a v8 and all i did was trim about 1/4 off the fan blades so they wouldnt hit my transmission line on the radiator ....but it all went on fairly easy
