Subject: Body Lift or Suspension Lift?
IP: Logged

Message:
Hi there, I was debating wether to get a body lift or a suspension lift on my 2002 dakota, which one is better? i was thinking going for the body kit cause its cheaper, but does a body kit have some downfalls to it, will the truck handle the same with a body lift? what are the pros and cons of each? thanks!

i beleve he means when you do a body lift that all your doing a "body lift" the frame/engine and every thing else stay the same height your just raising the body from the frame.

You can hardly see through the bed and the frame through the rear wheel well (lift lips fix that) and the engine is barley "sunken" at all. The body lift does not change handling at all. Suspension lift can. If you dont want to go that high, a body lift is a lot of bang for the buck.

Both are pretty much just for looks or in some cases clearence. Almost everyone I know who gets a suspension lift immediately thinks they can go out and bomb their trucks in the BAJA 1000, and ALL come back with there tails between their legs and out a hell of a lot more money then the lift costed. But, I live in S.California where there isn't too many smart people. If your gonna pre-runner out your truck, it's gonna cost A LOT of money. But if You just wanna get bigger tires under it, the cheaper the better I guess.

Do a body lift... you've seen Hawkeyes truck (NICE TRUCK) you've seen my truck. You tell me which looks better... BTW read the below..

Ok here's a update for all of you guys.. Truckin-Suspension will no longer work with me on this.. Ian just hung up on me saying they want the lift back from me.

I do NOT! recommend working with them at all on anything. Unless you SEE not talk to but SEE there product installed on someone else’s truck and you want the exact same product.

They paid Michael Briant the $500 for the install.... Which if I remember correctly wasn't done correctly or finished for that matter. He left when he cut off the wrong brackets in the rear.

Truckin-Suspension also sent me Black Powercoated Nerf Bars which.. the powder coat is falling off of. The actual bars look good and feel good but the powder coat sucks. I also didn't order Black bars.. I wanted Raw.

Truckin-Suspension will not help me find another installer and they won't pay or help pay to move my truck to a install shop. They also won't pay that install shop or work with them to fix this problem. They got there $1300 and are now running.

If anyone has any questions or comments about this.. please post.. I'd love to hear them... Yes.. even the "I told you so".. just because I want to see EVERYONES comments.

If you have a current order pending.. I'd try and cancle now .. before you get the wrong parts.
Post over here...

Body lifts are the stupidest thing ever!!! And they are ugly! You can see all of the undercarage and your plastic flaps that protest your engine are usless leaveing your engine exposted, you will be able to see though your rear wheel well and also your bupers aren't going to change leaveing a space between your boddy and bupper. A suspention lift are the best on any truck. Not only do they look better they also let your truck move more freely than a body, there are no cons with a suspention lift, only pros!

Are you serious or just dumb?A body lift DOES come with brackets to relocate the bumpers ,and the gap guards cover the areas up in the wheelwells (by the way if you look at a stock Dakota there are already large gaps exposing the engine in the front wheel openings so a body lift + the guards look BETTER)!NO CONS w/a susp. lift...HA ask poor Knobbyman about that. The biggest con w/the susp. lifts are the co. making them.I guess thats just your opinion though and you know what they say about opinons...

I agree with GROM on the body lift, engine sinkage, having to buy lift lips to cover the gap for the rear wheel well, and the frame exposure is pretty unattractive to me too. Although when you get straight suspension you won't have that lovely ride of stock ever again....

i like my body lift, and the rest of the gang that has them likes them also, and for the gaps they can be filled very easy, mine look better than stock, now the frame does not stick that bad,and when you pull up to another dak, they are looking UP at you instead of looking down, also i can upgrade to a larger tire, and all of this for $189. see ya

If I remember correctly you just have to trim the plastic under the actual filter alittle to make it fit.. But I've never seen or done it before...

Can any answer this from experiance?

My 99 Dak had the K&N kit on it before and after the body and susp. lifts.Knobby, you are right, you just have to trim the metal heat shield to fit, no big deal, although the instructions say it will not fit with a body lift that just means without modifications, almost anything can be made to fit.BTW Knobby I can`t wait for you to update your pic. with a finished LIFTED truck!

Heh.. My trucks been have this kit installed for over a month now... Do you really want to leave your truck up on jackstands for that long?

If your going to do that and put the time and effort I've put into it. Stick a Dana 44 up front. With a ARB locker.

He is having to get another shop finish the same Truckin Suspension lift for him so far at HIS cost! There is no lift for our trucks right now. Truckin suspension isn't even an option in my opinion. I am not knocking Knobby in any way. I think Knobby would agree that we shouldn't send that company any of our money after what they have done or should I say havn't done. Knobby tried to help them out and really he paid them to use his truck as a guinea pig and they still stuck it to him. His was the first ever to have the 4.5 lift. The only other truck with their lift was DPKerns and that was the 6.5 lift and last I heard it couldn't even be aligned right. While dpkerns was trying to get back to the guy that originally made the lift, who by the way quit truckin suspension, the brake lines rubbed or wore in two. Another great side effect of f@ckinyou suspensions great lift!

OPINIONS ARE LIKE....WELL, YOU KNOW THE REST!!

Thanks guys.. What Quadman said is correct.

I would NEVER send this company any more $$... If you really want the lift send me the $$ and I'll have a duplicate faberactaed.. I'll give better install support then those people.

Anyway I'm still waiting on install instructions from them.. Not like they'd be worth anything but it'd be nice to know they actually thought about how it's actually going to be installed.

New shop said they will be able to work my truck in sometime... Soon :-\ don't know how long that means. but hopefully they mean tomorrow they will see the horror that I call my suspension lift.

;-)
