Eric. Speaking of turbo's has that or can it be done to our V8 trucks. Probably not for the 4.7 yet if it is an option at all. Anyone seen this??

2.5L and 4.0L - '97+ 2.5L is the same as the Jeep

You can contact SciTech in Florida (if they'll answer the phone) for the Turbo kit. There is one other person on the R/T list who is looking into a twin-turbo kit for his 5.9L and the cheapest is right about $10K (w/intercooler).

Check with Turbo City for a Turbo system for the 2.5L.

It's been done already on a V6...and he runs 11-second 1/4 miles.

bernd what was that scitech you were talking about. because i live in florida and have very seriously been thinking about fabricating a turbo, but if a kit is available-even better. o and if anyone wants to know i have a 98 cc slt 2.5l with a jet stage II, custom dual rear exit with flowmaster 50 series-delta flow, homemade intake with k&n, 180 t-stat,and for exterior and interior mtx thunderform with 2 10"mtx blue thunder subs, thunder 204 amp, jvc head unit, chrome speed grille inserts (upper and lower) v-tec light covers, clear corners, super bright white bulbs in heads and fog lights and probably more but cant think of anything else now. i would like to sell and get 4.7L 5sp but money is limited due to the fact that im 16 and have to make all my payments, but i would really like a turbo, i think it would be a sleeper(prob not to 4.7s or r/ts, but some comp for the ricerockets) with a few more components.

I think for that kind of money a V8 swap would be a better idea .... no?

big g i actually have priced an engine swap with a slightly used 4.7l and was around $6k so like eddie said, your treat right? i would be more than happy with a 4.7l, and you have a 3.9 right?
i raced my friends stock 3.9 auto, and we were neck a neck the whole way until we hit about 70 we both let off. not too bad for a wimpy 2.5l if i dont say so myself, and your forgetting the main idea here- dodgedakotas.com we all have the same interest and shouldnt really revolve around engine size. it isnt dodgedakotas3.9andup.com is it? ;) just double checking.

hey steve-o,

i've got a 97 with the 2.5 also. i scored a turbo from a wrecked 2.2 crysler turbo car. i've been thinking the same thing you are i just need an exhaust manifold. know anywhere that sells parts or a kit or anything? and yes i do believe v8 are better. but hey, 25 bucks for a garret turbo sounded good to me at the time. :D

Hey lay off the 4 cylinder guys. I think a turbo is a great idea. A blast to drive (had a 88 daytona shelby) and you can pass a gas station or two. More power to them. Of course I guess that is the goal anyways isn't it.

vinny no idea on where to get those parts, but keep me posted to the setup whatever happens, i would really like to to do this but not too sure on the internals if they would handle it or not, what do you think, maybe 7-8 pounds of boost, would be just enough.

Kevin, turbo 4's are alot of fun but there is going to be a long road ahead for you. I had the 86 turbo I in a lebaron and the engine runs like a scalded dog. Most of the turbo 2.2s and 2.5s were only working with 8lbs of boost. One time I was working on the car and mistakenly left the wastegate control tubing off and the car was at 11psi in no time!!! Major power gain but the ignition shut off to protect itself. Your big hurtle is going to be the computer. Full on custom work to actuate the wastegate and manage a much larger timing curve than the computer currently in the truck. Not much of an aftermarket for custom chips if that were even an option as I don't know the computer in your truck. If you look in a mopar performance catalog, there is or was a supercharger for the carberated 2.2's from yesteryear and might be able to be retrofitted to your application. I believe the comment that the 2.5 is from the jeep is true and there are all kinds of mods for those vehicles but they are mostly for the 4.0L as I would imagine. I don't won't to discourage you as I have seen turbo eclipses do 9 second runs at 140mph which making my mustang look bleek, but the V8 swap out of a low mileage wreck might be cheaper. Sometimes, you can get a full engine, electronics and transmission for $2500. You are probably looking at this much in labor just for the custom parts to go turbo.

Hope this helps.

Ya'll need to be nice to the 4 cylinder guys!! I have been heavily involved w/turbo dodges for 8 years(check out http://www.thedodgegarage.com/ for a good taste of turbo dodges). My baby, a 87 Daytona shelby z, will leave my big bad 360 R/T in the dust!! Of course it is moded and has run 13.9 @ 103 on crappy H rated street tires and 16 psi. There are a few guys in the turbo dodge community that have swapped in turbo'd 2.2L or 2.5L's into there 1st and 2nd gen daks. The first and second gen daks 2.5L's were chyrco's venerable design while the 3rd gens use jeep 2.5 motivation. Not sure how much of a headache it would be to get a chryco 2.2/2.5 to work in a 3rd gen dak. Don't let the V8 guys get you down its fun to spoil V8 egos w/half the cylinders!! Long live Turbo Mopars!!
