Subject: Throttle Body Spacers IP: Logged
Message: I have 2 questions concerning TB spacers.
1) What part of engine performance should be enhanced most by TB spacers?
2) Alone, how much difference do TB spacers make in overall performance?
No one yet has been able to convince me to use one.

Message: The only advantage anyone has been able to convince me of is that you do have a bit larger reserve of "quick" air. When first applying heavy throttle, the air that is already past the throttle body does not have to be dragged through the TB. Thus, slightly quicker throttle response on heavy acceleration. Beyond that, there is no increase in flow or volume.
Correct?

Message: ANSWER has the best (shortest) answer for your question. In old carburetor equipped cars the spacers they use help the "Ventury" effect be more efficient and give you better top end power. Today’s throttle body's really only acts like a doorway. They open and close changing the amount of air coming into the engine. JasonB said "you do have a bit larger reserve of quick air" this is in essence correct but the amount of response is so little that you will hardly be able to tell the difference. Now I don't know if a spacer is going to help, say for a Forced air or Juiced application but the cost of most spacers I’ve found don't justify the the expenditure. This is old school but I’ve been working on hotrods for over 20 years.

Message: then you should know that it is "venturi" not the stupid way you spelled it.

Message: On carbureted or TBI vehicles, a longer track before the carb made air flow faster past the venturis and increased fuel atomization. On MPI injected vehicles it doesn't work because it does not increase airspeed through the intake runners. The one that claims it spins the air is a real joke for the stock intake on a Dakota. I don't care if it's juggling three plates, when air hits the dead area at the bottom of the stock intake and then is pulled through 15 inch runners to the other side of the manifold and back, you can bet the air is not doing what it was when it first entered.
