Hey Frank thats not a bad idea. I always knew I would take lots of pictures, but now I'll make sure to have extensive documentation, and extra mounts for future reference. I've also had contacts with magazines about doing a tech article on the install. I'll mention the availability of these items in the article, and have contact information listed as well.
By the way Frank, are you in the Santa Barbara area? I'm not sure if the cox.net address is a local or nation wide thing.

You might have missed that I will not be buying the new Hemi for $5000.00. I felt 5k was a bit high, and he acepted my offer of $3600.00. Therefore, I dont think I'll be saving 2,500 dollars since, as far as I know, mopar crate engines dont sell for $1100.00

JR, I hope you will at least post the swap on a web site for all to see. I have just started a project converting my 72 Cuda to a fuel injected 408. I consider myself to be very proficient turning wrenches (at least I used to be back in the 70's). The job should be easy compared to some I've tackled. I tell the younger crowd, don't be afraid to try something new, just because it "looks" difficult does not mean you should not try it. We all learn by doing and if we don't "exercise" our brains every now and then we become lazy....
He who tries and fails learns....
He who never tries fails to learn....
My 2 cents.....

The 5.7L Hemi is mod-able. just look a little harder for parts. No one has done this, that is what makes this swap cool and new. Good luck and try it. It also doesnt hurt to have 345 FWHP either, especially on a stock motor in a Dakota.

The engine should be arriving sometime on or around the 8th. At that point we will fire it up, and start positioning it to look for fitment issues (the truck has been body dropped). As soon as I have some pictures or information for you guys I will post it here. In the meantime, does anyone have any suggestions on which transmission to use? A friend of mine suggested I talk to KRC Performance and have them build me one. Ideally, I would like a manual tranny that optimizes the gas mileage and performance of the engine.

JR, I wasn't being very specific on prices, but I was trying to explain to another poster how adding a engine as a upgrade in a new vehicle figures out. Perhaps I was wrong too? I'm not sure it's way too early and im still tired.

I have located a 2001 viper 6 speed tranny for 800 dollars. given the fact that the dealership wants $2600 for the factory hemi 5 speed tranny, should I go with the viper? do you guys think it will be worth the trouble of adapting it to work with my engine? thanks everyone.
