Well curiosity got the better of me , I usually don't street race but a young turd in a Hemi QC seen me drive by at a intersection and he was all reved up trying to catch up with me at the lights. It was funny because you could see him weaving through traffic to get beside me and be a knob untill we hit a set of lights. So I was a little worried because this was my first race against a Hemi.... well bring on the RC cause the QC went down fairly hard. I was a little surprised it wasn't a closer run, got to the next light and I still wasn't cocky just yet in case he was having a bad launch or what ever well we went again and it was the same story, at least 1 and a 1/2truck lengths between lights. Topped out at around 70mph before we had to stop for the next set of lights. I LOVE the new Ram Hemi but I am getting sick of the hype ( Its a truck not a Hemi cuda )To many people think it is a rocket - but for a full size truck yes it is quick.

As an old fart from the days of the Hemi Cuda I can say your correct. The new Hemi Ram can not hold a candle, one of my good friends (also an old fart) has one. I had a 70 1/2 Hemi Cuda, 67 GTX also a Hemi and a 69 Super BEE. One thing to remember the old Hemi like my 70 Cuda was designed to turn on in the 2nd half of the 1/4 mile. I don't keep up with engine stats now but at one point in time the 426 Hemi was the fastest production engine ever built. I can almost hear the rumble of my old Hemi as I type this, ok, could also be a flash back. Yes, those were the days!

how can an engine be the fastest? you mean that engine in what car?

For horsepower figures did any production engine outpower the 1970 Chevrolet LS6 454 (450hp)?

In a Cuda, Superbird, Daytona, Charger, Super BEE, GTX , you know production super cars of that era. I don't write the record books, but the record books say it was the Fastest production engine built in its day. As for the Chevy LS6 , It was and is one tough S.O.B.

From what I last heard the 426 Hemi was rated at 425hp, but severly underrated due to increasinginsurance costs, actual HP I have heard about 500+.

Schmitty.....Great to hear from others who remember. Gone are the days, it almost seems like a dream. Great cars are still being built but unless you were behind the wheel of one of these Mopar Monsters, you just don't understand.

Like the 60's you had to be there!!!!!!!!!

I'm like Schmitty. I also graduated from HS in 1970, albeit in the midwest. We had a stretch of road that we called the "miracle mile" through the south end of town. Yeah, real unique. Anyway, I remember cruising on Friday and Saturday nights, and watching the string of Boss 302's, Malibu SS 396's, GT500's, Roadrunners, Barracudas, Super Bees, Plymouth GTX 440's, GTO's, Olds 4-4-2's, Mach 1's, Z28's, and on and on...up and down the road, all night long. Gas was .23 a gallon. Yes, those WERE the days!
