Did you wire it to a switched DC source or directly to the battery ?
Should be wired to a switched source so when the keys off there is no power going to the fan.

If you're still using your stock battery, it may be going out. I had to replace mine (2001 model) not too long ago.

Go to WalMart and they will check it for you.

I have the towing set up with the heavy duty alternator and battery. Wallmart does not carry that OEM size battery. Its a large one. I ended up with a smaller but more powerful battery. I could not use the OEM batter cover. Who cares?

hEY THANKS FOR THE HELP, I THINK THE STOCK BATTERY COULDNT HOLD THE LOAD. FROM WHAT THE TECH SAYS I NEED A RELAY TO TURN IT OFF WHEN THE TRUCK SHUTS DOWN BUT HE WOULDNT DO ANYTHING FOR ME BUYING A NEW BATTERY. HE SAID HE THOUGHT MY TRUCK DIDNT NEED THE RELAY, SO I GET CHARGED $12.00 FOR IT. ALL THIS AFTER SPENDING HUNDREDS ON A FAN AND LABOR I PAY FOR THE SWITCH!

If you paid to have the fan installed and they didn't use a relay, then you need to take it back to the place who did the install and tell them to fix thier screw up. If you aren't using a relay or a fuse and all the power going to the fan is also going through the switch in your cab, you have an accident waiting to happen. What happens if the switch melts for the current draw and starts a fire under your dash?? You shoudl have a 30 amp fuse and 30 amp relay to run your fan. Aso depending on how you have it hooked up for power, you coudl be hurting your engine without it. Iknew a guy who had his fan wired to ignition power so it caem on when the truck started. No relay or switch, just wires stright to ingition power. Only problem was when he shut the truck off, the fan turned into a generator until it stopped spinning and the truck sputtered(like dieseling) until the fan stopped spinnign even with the ignition off. Of course he didn't know tat it was bad and was ging to leave it like that. I finally installed a relay for him just so he didn't hurt his truck.

HSKR is exactly right, I posted on this about a year ago.

DO NOT install an electric fan drirectly to any stock wiring. All elec fans are rated 30 amps and up and short of a VERY heavy duty switch none are rated that high, not to mention the circuit you have tapped into isnt either.

ALL elec fans have to be wired off of a switched lead and then a hot lead from the battery with a properly rated relay.

Please do yourselfs a favor and dont let wannabe mechanics (or you) do that kind of work to your Daks, you will regret it later.

Thanks again, i went today and they installed a relay so when the truck shuts off so does it, cause it use to run for 3-4 mins after. I didnt hear or see any sputtering so i think its better, i dont remember where they exactly hooked up the relay but its an improvement, that fire issue really scared me. thanks guys
