hey guys...as im going to be going from 14's to hopefully 12's in less than 3 days, im curious to know how fast you guys are going (mainly in r/t's with the same trans as me), and how many of you have had to upgrade the trans/and axles...i hope my tranny and rearend can hold up to this stuff, i get a mixed crowd..some say its not a problem, others say that my stuff will break...just looking for input here...thanx.

I wouldn't put the R/T drive train in a sick go-kart. No....seriously, it'l break. The dragstrip people like it when you spray trans fluid half the way down the track.

k...so if anyone has a SERIOUS answer, i'd be glad to hear it. ive thrown mid 14's down...not the greatest, but not too bad...and that mathmatically takes about 295 hp at the wheels to do...so 'sick go-kart' or not, i think its fairly strong...just want to see how strong.

afi360,

I don't currently have an R/T (did have a '98 when they first came out), but you could check into getting a custom driveshaft to help with your setup. Also, axles should be fine for now at your level (even 12's). If you get down to the 11's and 10's all the time (consistantly), then I'd think about some serious mods to everything in the drivetrain. Hell, you'd need to do a bulletproof tranny as well (you're going to eventually send yours into a meltdown). Driveshaft loops, custom driveshaft, simple stuff (but effective) for now...
