How is it possible that i can keep up with a 4.7 club cab dak, stock of course. I would have laughed my @ss off is someone told me they could. Heres what I have, a 3.9 5-speed with 3.92 gears in the back with the posi, Kenny Bell cold air intake, Jet Stage II module, V8 throttle body, bosch platinum 4 spark plus, accel wires, high flow cat with 3 inch cat back exhaust (Vortec). I have raced 3 daks with the 4.7 in them. We’ve raced light to light and on the longest one I got my dak up to 105 before I had to hit the brakes. I shift at about 5000 RPM's every time. Do the 4.7's come with 3.21's like my dak originally did? Thats all i can figure b/c i don't think that all of my mods can have that much of an effect.

Hey - put that in one of the "4.7 will woop your R\T" threads. I guess by the logic your faster than an R\T too...

Travis P. -- Yeah i guess your right going by that logic. I'm not trying to say that my truck is all that or anything. I am just seriously confused because i have ridden in those trucks and they feel a lot faster then the 3.9s. And i know that with the few mods i have it doesn't come close to the power that a stock 4.7 is putting out. I'm not complaining, i just want to know if anyone else has experianced this or not. I'm guessing that the guys i raced didn't know what they were doing (not that i do) or somthing.

If they were completly stock and you have a decent amount of mods, then anything is possible. A 4.7 with intake and exhaust plays games with an r/t and it's a 5.9. Mods to make a difference. So does the driver.

I mean maybe they was racing you, but once they got them 3 truck lenths ahead and let off the gas and you passed them, i don't think means you beat them.

yates-in-DE -- the 3 daks with the 4.7's i raced were all dead even with mine as close to as can be when racing on the street. none of us could pull away from each other.

I had a buddy come down this weekend with his 4.7 with an exhaust, cold air intake and Throttle body, auto and he handed me my @ss. Oh yeah he also put in 3.92's in the rear. Its amazing what those few mods did to his. His truck weighed about the same as mine.

once again i never claimed the V6er was all that, i just couldn't beileve i could beat a couple stock 4.7's.

You probably dropped .5 seconds w/ the engine mods and about .7 with the 3.92s.Most of the quad cab 4.7s run 15.8-16.0 in the quarter.

I just don't see it happening, not even when my truck was stock. I beat some V6 regular cab 5 speeds when stock. I just don't see it.

Hell, I'm faster than the Sentra SER Spec V's anyway (stock ones). I keep losing to 99+ Mustangs, and it's pretty close. I'm so darn close to having those owned (once again, the stock ones) as well. Not many if any unmodified Japanese imports can beat me right now.

Demon Dakota -- I do not have a bone stock dakota. I have a 99 SLT Club Cab 3.9 V6 with the AX-15 5-Speed Tranny with the following mods:

3.92 Posi Gears, Kenny Bell Cold Air Intake, Jet Stage II Module (I actually saw a differance with this mod unlike most people do), High Flow Cat with 3inch Cat Back Exhaust, V8 Throttle Body, Bosch Platnium 4 Spark Plugs, Accel Wires and thats it.

I was saying that even with this mods i would have laughed at any guy telling me i could keep up with a stock 4.7 club cab dakota. Correct me if i'm wrong but a stock 3.9 dakota does the quater in 18.8 seconds and the 4.7 in 15.8. Thats a 3 second differance and for the little mods i did i couldn't believe that the 3 daks i raced i could keep up with.

Now i did race a buddys dak this weekend with some mods, gears, intake, exhaust, throttle body and he killed me.

Maybe the daks i raced had 3.21's or 3.55's or something in it and heavier. I don't know. But yes the 4.7 is hella quick so thats why i was amazed and posted it.

waterpolo, were the ones you raced autos? If they were sticks, there are stock 4.7's that can run high-mid 14's. Too bad I had to mod the doo-doo out of my truck to even match some of them. Of course, I do have the Club Cab (and auto).

waterpolo, how did you know they were 4.7's. The only 4.7 with a V8 emblem is a 2000. There is a good chance if they had the emblems they were 5.2. If there was no emblem maybe they were 3.9's.

Demon Dakota -- Yeah they were all autos. I have a buddy up here where i work that has a 4.7 with a 5-speed. His is a quad cab so i don't know how much more or less it weighs. I've been trying to talk him into a race but so far he won't.

Sport -- The only reason i know they were 4.7's was because after we finished racing i rolled down the window and yelled at the driver to ask them what engine they had. They said 4.7, but who knows they could have been lying to me.

If it was a stock 3.9 i would have known b/c i can kill those no problem, Maybe i raced 3 fixed up 3.9's but i doubt it because a 3.9 sounds a lot different then the 5.2 or 4.7's, even stock. None of the trucks had exhaust systems (one of the first things people usually get done) and with an exhaust you can really tell if its a V6 or a V8.

My exhaust will be one of the LAST things I do to my truck. I'll probably cut the third cat soon though. I won't spend $$ on a sound, w/o a measurable gain in performance.
