Subject: Fuel / Timing issues for a Blower

Ok I bought a used Powerdyne blower with nothing more than the headunit, and 2 motor brackets. ($300:)

I have also bought a BBK 255lph inline fuel pump, and superchips timing controler. My question is about fuel delivery/management. Should I run larger injectors, a FMU, or what ?
What works best ? I am putting on the mopar performance headers, removing the jet chip, a ported and polished TB, and maybe underdrive pullies if I can find the right pully to bring the boost back up. With that config I want to stay around 6psi. Later (if not sooner) I want to replace the head gaskets and bolts to accomidate more boost plus nitrous. When I get around to the more boost and nitrous I plan on other things like M1, 1.7's etc... But for now what should I do fuel wise that won't require me to buy new stuff later and still be streetable (daily driver) and most important NOT BLOW MY MOTOR :)

Also do I need to run a btm with the superchips unit ?

Thanks !!

Marty

Sorry I cannot help you. But I would like to see you get an answer (because I may go with a SC) so I`m bumping this back to the top.

you will HAVE to get a FMU (12:1 ratio). the PD fuel pump is a 200lph pump, so yours might be a tad too much (better than not enough)

i beleve the icon controller can pull timing, so you can play with it untill you get the right amout of timing added and pulled (add to the bottom and pull from the top)

what is this on? a RT? you might want to get some 24# injectors for it.

Injection is nice, but i'd rather be blown.

No this is actually on a 98 318 auto. So basically even if I did go with larger/better injectors I would still need a FMU ?
I thought the Daks didn't have a fuel return line..... How does the FMU and fuel pump work ? Yeah I think the powerdyne is 190LPH, but I wanted to have too much rather than too little. I figure I can always put some kind of regulator in later, plus I got the BBK for $100, only used 4 times on the track on a rustang. (decent used inline pumps are hard to find at a good price!) And powerdyne wanted $239 for theirs (walbro knockoff)

Do I still need to get a msd ignition ? The superchips will advance the timing or retard it. I have looked at Bernds map, and he seems to have the timing advanced in the lower rpms but progressivly retarded (LOL) in the upper rpms.

You will need a MSD BTM (This will save your engine from detonation), or equivalent, and suggest getting a by-pass valve. Get a good one or get a cheap one from BOSH, the universal by-pass from Powerdyne is a rip-off! The part you get is a $40 plastic valve from a VW dealer (1.8 turbo I think)
This will keep the charger cooler.

A FMU with stock injectors works, and bigger injectors work w/o an FMU. I'm not running the FMU with 6# and good a/f mix with FMS 24# injectors. My suggestion is go with the FMU setup ... The big injectors (for some) will trip the MIL light just before boost.

My experience (I might catch hell for it) the stock head gaskets are ok for 6# with a BTM. Detonation is the enemy! Personally I'm running the Mopar performance head gaskets with stock bolts. I do have the FelPro 1008's with ARP studs setting around waiting for heads to blow, but they haven't and I have been racing it all summer and 15k mile since the gaskets.

Be careful about headers, if your lowered the headers MAY hit the passenger side upper "A" arm when bottomed out. I'm fixing mine this weekend. It starts as an annoying tick sound..

I hope this helps
