Message: When I lowered my first dakota we used a grinder to remove the rivets, this was a very long loud process. When I did my current dak I used a torch to remove them, and then had to clean it up with the grinder. THen we used an air chisel to pry the hangers off. Good luck man, its a Shi**y job but its worth it.

Message: If you've got a torch, MELT those rivets off! The install of my hangers were done in a driveway with ease. No banging, no ear plugs!!!

Message: Hi:
I am working on lowering my 2002 R/T right now. What I did is get four friends over and lift off my bed. I had an old table that was no good, so I put my bed on it. Then I took about a 1/4 bit and drilled the rivets about 1/2" deep. Next, I drilled the same distance with a 1/2" bit. Then I took a hand chisel and a hammer and beat the heads off the rivets. Next , I used a big screw driver and beat the rivets out. Note, take the factory hangers and shackels off. If you do not take them all off before installing the new ones, it is a pain in the ass. Then install the front first. I had to relocate my emergency brake cable because the new ones hit them. I do not know what brand yours is, but mine are western chassis. They are excellent quality for the price. I also had to let the gas tank down to get the nuts on the front driver side. This all took about 6 to 8 hours. I also c-notched my frame. It was not all that hard since I had the bed off. How low are you going. I went 3/4. I used dropped control arms in the front and shackles/hangers in the rear. I will finish my lowering tomorrow if I can get some help to put my bed on.
