Tell me how on earth the 2002 R/T dyno'd at 154 rwhp on Paxton's dyno. The truck was a club cab, and still ran 15.5 1/4 mile? Truck trend should really see how a CC with 154 rwhp ran a 15.5!!! sounds like crap since my stock 99 made 220 hp at thr rear.

whY ON GODS GREEN EARTH DOES MAGAZINES CONTINUE TO DO THESE TESTS. They put RT's up against supercharged trucks that out muscle RT's. Lets make it fair and throw a S/C on the RT and see if its alittle closer. Hell no they won't do that it would be too much like right! Just my .02 cents!

Not only supercharger but IC too as far as the lightening goes!

154 hp that can project a 4000lbs truck through the quarter at 15.5... Now thats a damn good time for the lack of rwhp if you ask me.

Just guestimating... its basically saying then you only need alittle over 230-240 horse to pull in a high 13 second time... Thats pretty damn good concidering Lightenings with 400 horse only pull in about that or a little better at the most bone stock.

(Aparently though truck trend is living in a dream world...)

To clarify what I'm saying is, Its obvious that if truck trend is going to underrate the R/T, its actually boosting its rating higher to a certain stand point... What im saying is if 154 horse can project 4000 thousand pounds that quick... you could only imagine what a sub 200 (180 190) horse power Honda Civic could run.

Now that I think of it, sounds like a ploy to make ricers look more quick to me from an extremist point of view. :P

Try not to kill me for this, just thought I might throw out some numbers from a run I made in my 5.9. It is not a R/T (wish it was) but it is not in a Dakota either it is in a 1999 Durango 4X4 SLT.

She weighed in at 4800 lbs without me in it with about a half tank of gas (scales measured to nearest 10 pounds and I rounded 4790 to 4800). Just so you know...

Made two runs last September back at the track in Rogersville MO. Pass 1 was a 16.35 and pass 2 was a 16.11 it was a pretty nice afternoon and was not too humid. These times equate to an estimated 217.06 to 226.9 horsepower at the rear wheels. Just kinda throwin this out for you guys too chew over, don't know if it helps or not?

By the way the only thing I have done to It is a dual exhaust Dynomax Setup with a Cold are intake and my own stage 1 throttle body porting. Not bad for street tires and an SUV...

I wouldnt go pissing off corvettes though ;)

I found a horsepower calculator on-line that I inserted the weight of a CC/RT and the 15.5 elapsed time and came up with 223 RWHP and 274 horse at the flywheel. I guesstimated that the R/T would weigh in at about 4,200 lbs...I'm not 100% on that...so by rights the Paxton dyno is WAY off.

I saw that article today. Whatta buncha kRaP. 155 RWHP ? 90 something HP loss through the drivetrain ? Cmon. What did they do use a stack of notebook paper for an airfilter ?

If it was 155 RWHP in a 4000 lb truck then the HP calculator i have says it runs 17.2 ,,,,, yeah , right.

And then they throw in that Toyota POS for comparison and call it a "boy-racer" ? LOL

Why dont they use the reg cab R/T ? The Lightning is reg cab.

Damn I hate magazine people.

if ya'll are claiming 215-220RW figures what do you say about the 99 RC R/T tested a year or so ago in Hot Rod, by a chrysler service manager that put down 191RW. These motors are made on an assembly line, I can see a 10-15hp difference but 154RW as oppossed to 220RW? 66RWHP difference is not realistic.

ok, I have a best friend with a lightning. We raced the other day, and he slowly pulled away from me. I have stock heads, a K&N intake, PCM, and no muffler. I don't really think that these numbers are right. When I put on my Edlebrock Headers, and get an M-1 Intake manifold ported, and then get my heads ported and polished. I am sure I will either be even or passin him. These trucks are nothing more than trucks. They can take a hell of a beating. The way to take the truck out of the R/T is to get that sucker to breathe. That is all it takes. I know a guy that has one of the fastest Daks out there. He has like 500+ at the wheels. But he has Nitrous, and a supercharger. There really isn't a Lightning or a Vette out there that'll get em. Except maybe the lingenfelter. Even still he is gettin low 11's on pump fuel. He will be getting the new Paxton Supercharger, but when he gets the $$$. I am gettin mine ready for that upgrade. I also know a dude that has a nat. asp. Dak RT that beats lightnings all day. but his came stock doin 14's. Don't ask, he just got a good one I guess.

isn't the dyno they used old? I thought the new technology in dyno's went over to a single wheel not the old school two wheel style like used in truck trend? You dont loose almost 100hp through the drivetrain.

Yeah , 100 HP loss through the drivetrain ? What a buncha BS. Ive seen stock 5.9 R/T put out about 190 RWHP. I had 189 with my G-tech. And its rated at 245 ? 250 ? at the engine. So 60 I can believe , not 100 , cmon guys.

Im sure Truck Trend got a lot of mail about the low #s the R/T put out on their dyno. Look for an apology in next months issue.
