The cast iron crankshaft was replaced with a forged one, a different crankshaft damper and special main bearings. The compression is bumped from 9.0 to (9.7 to 1) by using a domed piston. The HO has two knock sensors were the standard 4.7 has none. I think the PCM may be different or at least a different flash.
IMO it isn't practical to make a 4.7 HO from the standard 4.7.

Swap the cams is easy enouph and there is a good gain. Replace the cat with a high flow one and then have fun it will respond to mods after that.

DC tech actually. They are pretty much just nuts and bolts just read the factory service manual before starting. Nothing really special you have to know.

Hey CW,
I've been reading the manual, and I
would like to know is the fuel rail very hard to
remove? I'm planning on replacing the intake
with the HO.
Thanks CW

Texas Todd: No dyno numbers as the nearest dyno is 2 hours away and only dynos on the weekdays.

Chipster: 4 8mm bolts and pull stright up the injectors just slide right out of the heads. I am still undecided as to the merit of the intake but it would be nice to have more than just me try it. I would have to say more top end for sure.

I ordered the intake anyway, I dont see why
Chrysler would create to diff part numbers for
the exact same part, it has to be something
internal. (Still waiting on the cams)

CW: where can I get the "special" tool
required install the cams, and also the chain
wedges? can I order them through my
dealer?

thanx.

CW, what kind of gains could one expect by going to a high flow cat? I also have the homebrew K&N intake & Gibson single out.
Is there one that you recommend?
Thanks, JW

D,
Chrysler does use diffrent part numbers for the same item, the company I work for sends one part to Chrysler under three diffrent part number depending on the way they are packed and shipped, bulk pack, tray pack and kit packed.

Juniork: Yes, they work quite nicely.

Jeff W: The stock cat is the bottle neck in the system. It helps the mods respond better and lets the engine breath on the top end.

There is definitly a difference in performance. Made mine a little soggier on the bottom but will pull forever on the top.

gsmarquis: I have done very little research on cats I couldn't tell you. Bernd carries the carsounds so I assume they are pretty good as he doesn't sell junk.

D: I didn't use any special tools to tighten or loosen the bolts. I just used the compression of the engine. I work for the dealer so I used the ones from work.

CW, I used a ratchet on the crankshaft bolt to hold the engine while I removed the cam bolt. actually had someone else hold the crank bolt while I did the cam. I tried it without, and the engine kept turning. Did you use an impact gun?
I was using hand tools. I'm waiting for Leach to send my PCM back and then I'll be ready to go. I'll hit the dyno in a few weeks, we'll see what the dyno says compared to my baseline of 215.

Overall, the cam install was very easy. Like you said earlier, nothing special, just nuts and bolts. Chrysler was really using their heads when they designed this engine. I've installed many, many cams in 318, 360, 440's, etc.. and this by far was much easier !!! NO GASKETS !!!!!!!!!!!!
NO WATER PUMP.

You can get the tool and instructions from KRC for about $20. I had no problem ordering through Marty.
