Subject: Question on Straight Pipes
IP: Logged

Message:
I have a 99 with the 5.9 so far the mods include Air Intake, Mild Throttle Body Porting, Shift Improvement. I am thinking about going with dual straight pipes after the cat. Had it that way on my 2000 ram last year and loved the sound right out the rear of her with 4" tips. I have however moved to Florida since then and was wondering if anyone knows whether or not it is legal to run without a muffler in this state??? and what kind of results has the 5.9 shown??? (my 318 responded very well)...

Any input would be appreciated...

Not really sure if Florida or any other states actually require you to have a muffler but most have noise laws. I'd have to say if you approached a Florida trooper and asked him if your straight pipe dakota was too loud you would get a yes plus a ticket. I'd venture to say if you dyno'd a near stock 5.2L w/ a stock, perf. muffler and a straight pipe you would find little perf. difference.
