Now didn't they also make V8 SHO's at one point?
I never heard much about them though. But I know the V6 ones had some wicked a$$ intake design and were reliably engines for what they were.

I don't know where everybody found these fast SHOs. My brother owned 2 an 89 and a 93, both 5 speeds. They were both mid 15 second cars. Quick for a grocery getter in their day but no hot-rod by any stretch of the imagination.

Oh and BTW,
Yes, when we lined them up, my 98 rc 5.2L 5 speed with the cat-back and K&N, out ran his 93 by about 5 car lengths till I hit the speed limiter.

ALL,
I've owned 2 SHO's. I'ved owned V8 Dakotas ever since they came out with them. I've raced all of them. A stock SHO will blow the doors off a stock Dakota. I used to love beating mustang GT's in my 93 SHO 5spd. Now I have a VW Passat W8 with 270hp all stock and it blows the doors off Dakotas so bad it's funny. There are so many bone stock family sedans out there right now that will run circles around a Dakota. Give it up!!!

Yeah, those SHO's are fast enough to beat a dakota. They can run low 15's. Fast for a family car.

idano12, the rc v8 5 spd truck is our fastest setup. if you did race a 93 sho, that is not the fastest sho setup and race could have gone either way. however, if you race a much lighter 89-91 sho 5 spd, you would be signing a different tune about sho's.

No Jason, I wouldn't be singing a different tune.
The 89's are a couple tenth's quicker because they weigh a couple hundred pounds less. They aren't 5 tenths quicker. His 89 would have still lost to me. Just not by as much as his 93 did.
The Taurus SHO's were good little grocery getters in their day. They aren't as quick as the new grocery getters. The 93 wouldn't even beat my wifes chipped 96 T-Bird. The 89 would have probably run with it though. If you start some weight reduction and engine mods you can get the SHO's into the 14s pretty easily. But it's not stock anymore more, is it? Stock SHOs are mid 15 cars. A GenIII 5 speed V-8 3.92 LSD Dak will take them, a R/T Dak will take them. Unless the Daks aren't running right or the SHO isn't stock.

in my 91+ sho, no mods i ran with a supercharged 5spd thunderbird sc who had a supercharger pulley and a few other mods, gears too i think. it's been a while so maybe it was one or the other. anyways, i had two people in the car, he had three, i took him by about 1/4 or 1/2 car length and was pretty even from there. we started from a roll cause i had a weak clutch at the time. 89 should run within a tenth of the 91+. the 89 being quicker by less than a tenth or so cause of no airbags and no abs saving about 100 lbs or so.
anyways that was a stock sho against a modified thunderbird sc. he was quite impressed! so was i. just a couple more cents to chew on.

Fine bring your SHO by, I'll SHOw what it will do.
I feel like I'm reading titantalk forums, (another truck that will beat a Taurus SHO by the way)and reading about how their trucks will beat hemi 300s, V-8 STS Caddies, 2006 Mustang GTs, etc., etc., etc., only this time its Taurus SHO owners who haven't got a clue. BTW the SC T-birds aren't anything special. Kinda like the SHOs, Nothing special.

um, it's a little bit special.
right now you can pick an old one up for $1000-$2000 with 150000 miles on an 89 model and blow the doors off all but the newest most expensive cars on the road all while still getting great gas mileage. it's no bmw 540, but that's why i like it.
the reference to the super coupe thunderbird was to back up a previous quote from someone else.
"The 93 wouldn't even beat my wifes chipped 96 T-Bird. The 89 would have probably run with it though." -he was right!
by the way, i wish i had an 89 sho still. i just might have taken you up on your offer there for a race. win or lose, i still would have gone home in the coolest car. lol.

What a joke!!
A new honda accord v-6 will whip its a$$ by 1 second in the 1/4. So will the new Camary, Sonata, And every other 3300lb. 260+hp grocery getter that's on the market now. Like I said, a stock *TITAN* will kicks its butt. GET A CLUE!!!

new camry, no
new avalon, same 0-60 times (6.6sec)but i'll give you that one. not as fun as driving a 5 spd and it is a $30000 car.
i assume you mean the accord v6 which carries a hefty price tag. so they run 14's now? cause a good driver behind an 89 sho should run 15.2 or about. V6 accords don't come cheap.
MAYBE an 06 sonota but not an 04 or older.
besides who on this board we are posting would spend 24000 on a hyundai before getting a taurus sho? Not me!
therefore i stick to my original statement

"it's a little bit special.

Oh hell too funy.

I saw some Titan's run at the track a few times. I didn't see any get below 16 seconds! Don't know why people think they are so fast.

When I had 3.55 OPEN diff, I lost to one by a few tenths max. I was ahead until the end. Dunno why mine was quicker form a stop. I had to run rear tire air pressure at 15PSI back then to reduce spinning.

BTW. They (Titan) are rated with the highest failure rates out of similar trucks. Tsk tsk. Must be that mini-truck sized rear axle?

Honda V6's probably don't do any better in the 1/4 either. I used to beat them with a 4 banger 5 speed. But I'll never go back to a car. They are road kill these days.

I used to love the SHO taurus'. They were dependable and kind of quick. I only drove a few customer cars.

graphitedak,
thanks for the vindication on the sho thing. i always read your posts and love what you did with your truck and you seem level headed, cool to talk with kinda guy. the fact that you did 4.56 gears on your truck helped me to see that 4.10s wouldn't be such a huge leap of faith.
but... i'm officially of the sho thing. this old post sure brought up some fun memories of crusing in my youth.

Well. If anything you can always remember that with TRUCKS, although we are not the BIGGEST out there, we still own a lot more of the road than many of them sh*t box cars out there :)

Some small cars may be quick, but I'll never drive something small again.

Graph,
Cut me some slack, I was talking about the wild claims of the Titan owners being able to beat cars that will smoke a Titan and then insinuating that the SHO owners here were doing the same.
I don't know what year V-6 Accords you're talking about but you're definitely not talking about the newer Accords. The new Accords, Camerys, and Sonatas all have 260+hp V-6s. That makes for a pretty quick grocery getter. The new Mazda 6 Speed has a turboed 4 that's putting out 270hp. Any of these will SMOKE a stock SHO.
Like I've said, the SHOs were quick in their day, but those days are long gone.
