I have a 99' r/t and ran into a cooling problem today. A few weeks ago i put that purple ice stuff in my resevoir bottle and may have over-filled it. Well now it seems that it messed something up. My heater is only warm when moving, and in traffic, in 50 degree weather, my temp gauge literally jumped up to the border on the hot range. The check gauges light came on, and the idle went up. Then, as i started moving again, the temp went to 210, sat for a while, then back to normal. The road i was on was slanted. i dunno what else could be effecting it. thanks,

chris

I agree you may want to replace the thermostat. I would also recommend clean (anti-corrosion) and flush the system.

Well, i looked into the problem further, and it seems coolant drips out the overflow opening on the overflow bottle, which means, (i assume) that the bottle is getting to full. This only happens after i shut off the engine and it sits for a minute. It actually ran itself nearly out of coolant completly. Could my head gasket have blown? Or do you still think its my thermostat. Maybe the cap? Im not sure, if somebody could tell me how to test, I would appreciate it. By the way, it is supercharged with a 6# pulley. I wouldnt think it would blow the head gasket, but who knows. thanks for the help

Well drtswinger, I have the same problem in my 00 cc R/T with a 6# pulley on the supercharger. I just replaced the thermostat and cap. It is still a problem. I hope it's not a head gasket! That would suck, I just bought this truck. Have you figured out the problem with yours?

this post is really old. Its your head gasket, plan on replacing it. I just got through with my second set. I am becoming a master at doing it. Get the arp bolts, and make sure you run everything need for boost this time. injectors, btm... ect. anyways, dont bother replacing stuff, just get a co2 test done on your radiator, it will tell all. let me know any updates... I will help ya out on info.

Thanks for the info. I knew that it was an old post, thanks for the response. I'm thinking on the copper head gaskets if I do have to replace them.
