I would think a Y-pipe off of a 2000 R/T would work I don't think they changed anything.

I was wondering about this also. I had an off-road h-pipe on my '99 Cobra, and it was the best mod I did to it by far(sound, performance, and price). I need more sound for my 4.7, and not just a cat-back or muffler, I want it LOUD. Does anybody make an offroad y-pipe for the 4.7? Or is the only route to buy another stock y-pipe and gut the cats?

I was looking under a 2001 durango and it had just the main cat and no precats. Also I have heard that the 2002 ram Y-pipe is ¼ inch bigger than the dakota 4.7. But I don't know if they have the precats. I am sure it would bolt up and then you could make your own exhaust from there. Damn aftermarket needs to get into gear.

CW I beleive the 2 pre cats came in during 2001. If it was an early 2001 Durango then that's probably the reason for no pre cats. I have no main cat and 3" exaust to the Y pipe. It's very loud and made a good dif in performance. The pre cats are suppose to be fairly free flowing but I will probably lose them in the future and run a 3" in 3" out single high flow cat for emissions once a more stout Y pipe is available. Is there a cat box for our aplication?

I meant to say 2002 durango. I am sure it was one that I was doing a PDI on but I could be wrong next time I will look for sure to see. I looked under a 2002 1500 truck at work today and it has no precats but to buy the Y-pipe the main cat is right on the end of it. I am sure it will be 500+ for that so that is out.
You have to hard wire the catbox at the moment for our application I think Bernd is working on a connector for it but you would have to ask him.

Guys i would recomend not doing this because the pre cats are better flowing that just one big one. I have an 02 R/T with the 3 cat system and what i was going to do when i get me headers on is keep the two pre cats on and remove the main cat and convert the whole system to true duel exhaust.

the precats may be highflowing, but the closer the restriction to the exhaust ports the more restrictive it is.
what would be the point of freeing everything else up behind the restriction?

this is also probable why the 4.7l only gets 1hp give or take from a catback exhaust, and duner got 20hp(I think can't remember the right number)from a highflow cat. he also has the singal cat y-pipe from the factory.

No doubt about your claims conig. My 3" cat back did nothing for real power gains but when I removed the main cat and extended the 3" exaust to the Y pipe it made a very noticable dif. At first I was concerened I screwed up because it felt weak but once the PCM learned to deal with the high flow it perked up very very nicely. I still have the pre cats but will pull them once I find a good stout Y pipe that's better than the stock pipe. I will then use a single high flow cat to maintian some sort of pollution control.

Is a cat box avialable for the 2001 4.7??

The cat box is available for the 2001 4.7L. You have to buy a pair of them. Bernd sells them off his site for $125 a pair. www.speedtweaks.net
