Message: I was just wondering about your 340. can you use the magnum heads and intake on that block? And if your using your fuel injection, what kind of computer are you going to use for the motor? I'm seriously thinking about using a 340 block in place of my 98' 318 that I have already. I just don't know what to do computer wise. Thanks

Message: Using magnum heads and M1 intake and keeping it fuel injected. Alot of custom work to be done though. Custom made motor mounts, crank trigger, oil pan, retrofit roller cam, custom length push rods etc. I'm using mopar performance computer with ford 24lb injectors. Hope you know someone who is a good welder and machinest or it will cost alot of money.

Message: What year 340 block are you using? I've got a '71 340 block and a '77 360 block in my truck.Last time I looked they both had bosses mid-block that the new-style mounts bolt to.Also what happened with the oil pan, I've swapped them between 318's and 340's before. The 360's have a different pan though.

Message: why dont you just get a 318 crank and put it in the magnum 360 block if you wanted a 340? that would save you a Ton of fabing and custom stuff. am i just missing something here?

Message: because the 360 and 318 have 2 different size crank journals, i already looked into it, requires a custom crank to be made.

Message: Well there is only one boss in the middle for a mount instead of three. So its either drill and tap the block (middle not casted like magnum) or build motor mount for the front mount. Already made for 96 and older. 318 crank in 360 it don't make sense and it don't make a 340. 360 is smaller bore than 340 and a 318 is same stroke as 340 hows that make a 340 #2 you can't swap them. oil pan mod is because the magnum mains are different. The rear cap is smaller on magnum so the 340 has a 1/4 inch gap beween the pan and the block. You need this pan because it is shaped to the cross member.

Message: i was under the impression that the magnum 318 and 360 journal sizes were the same. i figured that there was a method for the madness and thats why i asked. it seemed like quite a lot of work for 22 ci and not just a magnum 360. i think it's great that you went back to the old style block. there arent too many dakotas that have done that and i'm glad that someone has.
