I don't normally get into these things, but I feel I can inject some experience here. I currently own a 97 Dakota Sport CC 5.2 auto, 2wd, 3.92 gear, headers, catback, high-flow cat, K&N, electric fan, etc. It runs okay and makes good low-end torque, but this drivetrain is no match for the GM LS1. I not just talking engine here, but also tranny. The Dodge tranny is pretty lame... very inefficient, slow shifting, etc. My other vehicle is a 01 Firebird Formula hardtop, auto, 3.23 gear, Mobil 1 and nothing else. It has 7,000 miles on it and it will absolutely scream. I had a 2000 GMC Sierra, RC, 2wd, 5.3 auto, and it ran okay, decent low end probably equal to my current Dak, but it ran stronger and stronger all the way to redline. My Dodge runs out of breath before 4,000 rpm; and that's with quite a few mods. And anyone who says GM overrates their engines needs to make that claim over on LS1.com. 01-02 Camaro/Firebird LS1's (after 5,000 miles or so) typically dyno 300-320 hp at the rear wheels, bone-stock. That equates to well over 350 hp at the flywheel. They are rated by GM at 310-325 hp. Sounds underrated to me.

My second race w/ my 00' Dak 4.7 CC 4X4 5-speed was against my friends 00' Silverado CC 5.3. We raced from a light to 80mph up a slight hill and I beat him by a little. His front bumper was by my rear tire. I'm stock, he has an cat back.

My first race, against an RSX Type-S, we were rollin at about 35 and raced till about 85, he beat me by about 1.5 car lengths from my front to his rear bumper. He had a CAI and Cat Back

I own a performance shop in texas somewhat popular...(we know our stuff)... we know GM's LS1 engine is no match to a magnum... even the ram air has the (LS1) of course more modified and a couple of thousand pounds less... In a 5.3 mods work alot better than in a dakota... dont get me wrong the dakota doesn't have the same wheel base or wieght but the LS1 should or will pull foward... alsow the driver has lot to do with it.. cant shift? there goes 1/2 a sec or 1 in a 1/4 you need to know your vehicles strong points..

well in my part I own lots of fast vehicles ranging from 9 sec 1/4s to 15 sec tahoe...but since the 5.3 is in here I would like to tell you about my 2000 GMC... regular cab, stepside bed,3.73 limited slip posi, super suprior corvette servos in trans...with shift kit(well recomended when you want sherps at every gear, gibson sport truck system with gibson Headers, 7 thousand dollar Vortec Supercharger(intercooled),hepertech programmer.. and thermostat,of course slicks on back...,and thinking about a 75 shoot NOS.. not yet because I dont want to blow the engine.. would need to change out cam.. ect... the works.. not ready for it. I want to see how far I can go in the 1/4 mile... I make around 12.856 to 12.967 in the 1/4 mile.. I guess its pretty fast..of course I spend thousands on it but still it a flat 5.3 nothing more.. untouched the block or heads. My goal is to smoke vettes in the 1/4.. In top speed it easly pulls away but still it pretty dam good for a TRUCK.... My friends say I'm crazy but we all have the need for speed.. I can get you there faster.... but not everys got $$$$ to spend on racing.. I guess single and own business, factory prices I the guy to know... In my knowledge i've always made the right combos to make preety much anything run even little four bangers to even diesel... speed is in deed expensive.. even if you dont put anything into it you'll probably end up messing something up in the long run... and there goes the cash... and I could probably make a dokata as fast as mine.. but it would involve lots... of mods..the tranny is to small in dodge it doesn;t help but I've seen pretty fast dakotas going out of my shop i've even made one to hit a 13.5 in 1/4 pretty good right at least you'll see it oull away from those mustangs...at least the stock ones..

I just find it funny that you guys are comparing a mid sized truck against a full sized truck. What if chevy put that 5.3 in the S-10? You dodge guys would say "thats not fair". 'cause then the 5.3 would smoke the dakota.

Justin's right, there would be no comparison if the S-10 had a 5.3. I read these comments about how people with Dakota's walk all over the new GM V8's and can't help but write back. There is no way. GM's have a higher horsepower-to-weight ratio and also have a lot more torque. I have a 2002 Yukon with the 5.3 and I've lit up everything from a 5.9 Cherokee to a Hemi. Sorry, but GM's cost more for a reason. I guess this is like a little forum for all the pitiful Dodge backers to try boost eachothers confidence but some of these comments are just rediculous- i.e. the last comment about a v10 in a Dakota!!!!

Ah,GM, if you would get your head out of the clouds for a second you would understand my post was meant as SARCASM. Just as there is no V10 Dakota there is no 5.3 s10. So imagine all you wish, dreamworld is obviously fun for you!

General Motor let's do fair comparison's then.
Dodge Ram SRT-10 -500 horsepower and 525 lb.-ft. of torque. The truck goes from 0 to 60 in approximately five seconds and tops out at about 150 mph. Silverado SS 395hp and 409lb-ft of torque. Comparison of the two - Dodge stomps Cheby. Dodge Ram-5.7-liter V-8 Hemi Magnum produces 345 horsepower at 5600 rpm and 365 lb-ft of torque at 4400 rpm. Chevy Silverado-Vortec 6000 V8 300 horsepower at 4400 rp and 360 lb-ft of torque at 4000 rpm. Comparison of the two- Dodge stomps Cheby once again. General Motor you can keep your Cheby. Because MOPAR stands for MORE POWER in my book. Not to mention the Cheby's look weak. But hey it's your money and your choice. Just don't come to the Dodge Forum and talk smack.

Got bad news for you investor. My o2 4x4x4 4.7 auto has already smoked several 5.3's.
Also your going to need moore than your 5.3 to smoke my 95 ZR1 Vette.
The ZR1 weight is 3340 lbs. your boat 5200lbs.
I forgot you may not know what a ZR1 is!
Its chevy's DOHC Hemi 32 valve 16 fuel injector motor. Factory rated @405 hp. Mine with Gibson, and a few free mods DYNO's@ 488HP. runs high 11's low 12.0 sec 1/4.Dude, Take your s##t somewhere but not here!
